The Islamic State has claimed to have hacked into the personal information of 1,400 US and Australian defence and government personnel, among them a Victorian MP , and several public servants, with a warning that the fighters will soon kill them.
An IS message warned, “We have your names and addresses, we are in your...social media accounts. We are extracting confidential data and passing on your information to the soldiers of the khilafah (caliphate), who soon...will strike at your necks in your own lands!“ The Victorian MP, named in the list, said he had contacted the security tasked with protecting parliamentarians. The Australians named in the list have few connections to each other, but at least half were employed by defence, had been a reservist, or had a family member in the armed forces.
The US has, however, denied that the list was compiled after a cyber attack.
