Bishop S Vasanth Kumar, who is facing a police inquiry following allegations that he has misused funds belonging to Bishop Cotton Boys and Girls School, has landed himself in soup. Just a day before he called an emergency meeting of the Church of South India, Karnataka Central Diocese (KCD) to transfer heads of the institutions functioning under KCD, startling documents have surfaced indicting the Bishop of misusing funds to the tune of lakhs of rupees over a period of 5-6 years.

Following the complaint registered against the Bishop, Bangalore Mirror managed to obtain the Bishop’s personal bank account statements.

These statements indicate he has ‘misguided’ schools to transfer funds into his personal account instead of KCD’s official account.

The Bishop’s personal bank account statement issued by Vijaya Bank, Residency Road branch, for a period between April 2006 and October 2006 indicates Bishop Cotton Boys School had contributed Rs 4 lakh through its SB account no 6988 on May 2, 2006 to the Bishop’s personal account no 118401010017030.

KCD sources maintain the amount should have been remitted to KCD’s account (56133003164) with the State Bank of Saurashtra, Mission Road branch.

Apparently, the Bishop had used this Rs 4 lakh to dole out favours to some of his cronies and also pay his daughter’s credit card bills. This confirms the allegations made by I Sounderraj of St Peter’s Church in KGF who has filed a police complaint against the Bishop. It was Sounderraj who went to the magistrate’s court and lodged a private complaint against the Bishop.

Further, the court had directed the Cubbon Park police to register a case against the Bishop and investigate the matter.
According to sources, the Bishop had asked the girls’ school too to transfer funds to his personal account. Sources indicate the meeting called by the Bishop to transfer principals of these two schools may witness heated debates.

It is being said the Bishop is initiating action against principals to prevent them from handing over sensitive documents to the Cubbon Park police and spilling the beans about him.

It’s normal practice for institutions functioning under KCD to contribute some amount every year to the Bishop’s discretionary funds. But these funds should go to an authorised account of KCD, which will be audited every year.

The Bishop is answerable to KCD and duty-bound to show how he has used these funds. He cannot direct schools to transfer funds to his account.

According to sources, principals have the letters sent by the Bishop asking them to transfer funds to his personal account. If these letters are handed over to the police, the Bishop will be in deep trouble.

The Hon. Munsiff Court, Ottapalam has granted an interim injunction restraining Bishop K. P. Kuruvilla and his accomplices from preventing Rev. Thomas John from discharging his ministries as a Presbyter/clergy of the North Kerala Diocese by IA no. 1109/10 in civil suit no. OS/145/10. The interim order was passed on a case filed against the action of removing Rev. Thomas John from the clergy roll of the diocese on the basis of a forged letter alleged to have been written by him requesting to be relieved from service as clergy of the diocese. Rev. Thomas John’s prayer is that this action be declared null and void as he had not written such a letter. It is learned that the bishop and his cronies do not have such a letter from Rev. Thomas John. The bishop himself confessed the absence of such a letter from Rev. Thomas John to a delegation that met him from the Holy Trinity CSI Church.

Rev Thomas John is a thinker, writer, philosopher, social activist and well respected all over Kerala, was the former Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology in U C College, Aluva and also a former General Secretary of the student Christian Movement of India. At present he is mission personnel of the Presbyterian Church, USA assisting them in their Hunger Ministry in India and also the Young Adult Volunteer program.

In 2007, Bishop Kuruvilla summarily relieved Rev. Thomas John from the charge of the Holy Trinity CSI church without assigning any reason. Rev. John accepted this action with grace as he had other important assignments with the Presbyterian Church and he had been serving the pastorate on an honorarium. This action is only one among the many vindictive actions taken by Bishop Kuruvilla on Clergy and laity against whom he has a grouse.

“Bishops Are Ruling Like Medieval Kings" – Rev Jacob Belly.
Rev. Jacob Belly has been an outspoken critic of corruption at the highest levels in the CSI. A pastor in the Coimbatore Diocese he fell foul of his Bishop Manickam Dorai for criticizing the Rt. Rev’s illegal dealings and eventually left the Diocese in 2006. Two months ago, Bishop Dorai was formally sent on leave by the CSI in the wake of serious corruption charges and even arrested and sent to jail by the police for menacing a priest. Rev Belly has been working with like-minded pastors in Coimbatore, Madras and Tiruchi dioceses on issues of corruption and misuse of power within the church and this he does as Secretary of the Presbyter Council for Church Reformation. He is also the Executive Director of the Asian Centre for Peace and Development, Coimbatore.

1) Rev Belly, how serious is the problem of corruption within the CSI church?
It is terrible. We are afraid the CSI may collapse.

2) What is the root cause of the corruption problem in the CSI?
The corruption in the church is also the reflection of the present society where corruption has become a part of daily life. I dot not justify this. What is there in the society has entered into the Church in a big way. The problem is that the Church which should stand for the TRUTH has gone against the TRUTH.

3) What can be done in practical terms to reduce if not eliminate corruption in the church?
Identify the areas which nurture corruption. There may be several areas. But the most important is corruption at the top level, particularly within the “Office of the Bishop.” This Office of the Bishop should be abolished. This was imposed on CSI by a particular denomination in spite of several objections. Several interpretations were given in the beginning to justify having this post. “A Bishop is a constitutional Bishop”. “He doesn’t have extraordinary power.” “ He will not handle any finance of the Church”. “He will exercise his power only through committees and boards”. Over and above all this, what was said was that the Bishop would govern the Church as “Servant”. It was said he would follow the model of Jesus, including washing the feet of the disciples.

But what is happening now? Bishops are ruling like medieval Kings. Some are like rowdies. Now to attain that post they spend huge money. The post of Bishop is now being bought. Bishops spend money to win elections from the Pastorate Level to the Diocese and then to the Synod Level. How do they get this money? How do they repay the money? Nobody can stop this corrupt practice. Only way to end this sorry and tragic situation is by abolishing the Post of the Bishop.

4) Why do you think CSI church members talk about the problem of corrupt bishops in private but few are prepared to act on the issue in public?
They are afraid of victimization. You know the Bishops misuse their power by excommunicating members even if they speak the truth. There is no tolerance for the voice of dissent. Therefore people are afraid of speaking.

5) How are you trying to address the problem of corruption within the CSI?
We have a strong theological base in the church to change the structure. Unfortunately no heed has been paid to the Reformist in Church History. We have to return to Jesus of Galilee. The lay people are very good but ignorant of several theological and historical facts. They have been misled. The Presbyters and the Lay leaders should awake to the present situation. The seminaries should come forward to stand for the truth. We need an awakening in the “Faith Community”. This is possible.

6) Your writings on the internet calling for a “great change within the CSI” have resulted in personal and often unsubstantiated attacks on your integrity. What do you make of these attacks?
This is the situation. The people in power in order to protect their misdeeds have attacked me. Any criticism against bishops is not accepted. Rather than deal with the questions raised about the corruption of Bishops the response is to say “You Presbyter - you are no way better.” Most of these attacks against me on the internet are anonymously mounted.

As far as Bishop K. P. Kuruvilla is concerned, establishment of his ‘ecclesiastical authority’ is more important than conducting a worship service on a Sunday. The adventure he embarked on Sunday, 29 August 2010 in a government aided mission school at Tripunithara is a clear demonstration of this.

As per the design developed in his mind, which always thinks in rather devious ways, he decided to settle scores with the Elamkulam parish by going over to the mission school in Tripunithara - an elementary school under the management of the North Kerala Diocese, aided by the government - and establish a parish of three families there.

Befitting his ecclesiastical glamour, he also had three Achens - Rev. Jacob John, his brother, Rev. Daniel John and Rev. Kurien Peter of the Immanuel Church, Ernakulum to accompany him, leaving their sheep to more worthy shepherds. In the presence of a large contingent of police force and a non-Christian public, he had his henchmen break into the school building and celebrate the Eucharist with six persons as captive audience. Probably he forgot the fact that the theme for this Sunday was Eucharist or may be, that is his vision of Church as a Eucharistic Fellowship.

What was eventually achieved from all this? Of course, his rather bloated ego was deflated. A criminal case was filed against him, two others who had aided him in breaking the lock of the building, and a correspondent of the Save CSI, who was manhandled by the henchmen of the bishop as he was taking pictures of Bishop’s adventures. By his actions, the Bishop also succeeded in enlightening the public of Tripunithara of his designs, of how he wished to turn an aided elementary school into a place of worship. In the light of this, the public of Tripunithara is now organized against the agenda of the Bishop and has formed a forum - Mission School Samrakshana Samithi. Moreover, it has been reliably learnt that the Director of Public Education has also objected to this move as it is against the Kerala Education Rules (KER). HYDERABAD: In the solemn season of Lent when believers would be cleansing their souls, an ugly property dispute regarding the ownership of the 150-year-old St George's Church at Abids has erupted. Now, the church's door has been locked for the last fortnight and it's only on Sundays when people are allowed inside to offer prayers. On one side of this property battle is the church's pastorate committee that has been managing its administration since its inception. On the other side is the Church of South India (CSI), which has now locked the church's doors, only to be opened for Sunday prayers, so that members of the pastorate committee do not enter. Both parties claim that they rightfully own the sprawling church property measuring a couple of acres, in the heart of Abids. Members of this church comprise many city elites including bureaucrats and top police officials. Things came to a head a few weeks ago when the CSI-appointed pastor K Zaccheaus tried to start the process for pastorate committee elections. Paul Daniel, president of the pastorate committee, which has been at loggerheads with CSI, saw this as a devious plan to take over the reins of the church by CSI. While CSI claims that as per its constitution the pastorate committee should come under it and elections should be held routinely, the pastorate committee challenges the very role or say of CSI in the church's administration. The ownership battle for this church started in 1987, when the then bishop of CSI, B P Sugandhar, tried to convert part of it into a commercial property and even got a permit from the municipal corporation. The St George's church congregation then filed a case against the CSI and got an order which made the church's pastorate committee responsible for the church administration and stated that the CSI bishop's role would be limited to appointing pastors who would carry out the spiritual activities/ceremonies in the church and not take part in its administration. The two decades that followed saw a string of legal and police cases that the two parties filed against each other. At the root of the problem was not just the worth of this property (worth a few crores of rupees) but also the vague ownership details. While CSI shows 'legal documents' that lists St George's church as its property since 1983 after it was handed over to the CSI Trust Association by the bishop in Calcutta, the pastorate committee notes that there is no documentary proof of the same, not even a registered document to show any property transfer. The pastorate committee notes in its various arguments that the 150-year-old church is older than CSI, which was incepted only in 1947. They further note that St George's is a registered church under the Societies' Registration Act and cannot be governed by a non-registered body like CSI. Also, being an Anglican church the worship pattern of the church is different from that of the CSI pattern. On its part, CSI states that pastorate committee itself has no standing given that the committee should be appointed by the CSI. St George's is an Anglican church, which was constructed on land donated by the Nizam. Former director general of Andhra Pradesh, Swaranjit Sen, who played the mediator's role between the two parties, says there are a lot of grey areas in the ownership detail but notes that the pastor Zaccheus, backed by bishop Kanaka Prasad and the diocese has created a lot of problems in the church. Meanwhile, T S Kanaka Prasad, bishop, CSI, maintains that the church comes under the body.

SCANDALISING Thalikulam Property Issue

Unlike the Syrian Churches which had been in existence in Malabar/ Kerala, what is distinctive about the Church of South India is its evangelistic heritage inherited from the Missionary societies that constituted it. Missionary societies acquired large tracts of land all over the country for their evangelistic efforts which they had understood as brining wholeness and healing to individuals and cultures and working against all forms of dehumanizing tenancies in the existing social conditions.

They acquired large tracts of land for creating Christian communities that model the values of God’s kingdom and to carry forward the work of evangelization through our schools and hospitals. The missionary history in Kerala is one of transforming the total life of its social and cultural life.

With the formation of the Church of South India in 1947, these lands and institutions were transferred to the CSI Trust Association (CSITA). The transfer was fully completed in the North Kerala Diocese only in the 60s. The properties were transferred not to be sold away, but for their safe keeping and protection and use them for continuing the evangelistic ministries’ of compassion.

One of the arguments for selling these lands is that they are remaining without being put to proper use and hence, likely to be encroached upon. Surely that will happen when the inheritor’s of this legacy has no sense of mission and vision. Look around and you we will see a multitude of people who are “like sheep without shepherd, harassed and helpless” and “a field that is ready for harvesting”. But our church leaders do not have the eyes to see this, but rather their eyes are set on making quick money selling these lands and institutions.

Under an episcopacy that has become monarchical and a mafia of power mongers that develop around the episcopacy, our inheritance of valuable immovable assets are reduced to objects for sale and their illegal gratification. The stories of such instances of illegal land transactions abound and are shocking. They are done under the garb of good stewardship of resources and development of the church properties.

The mission of the present bishop of the North Kerala diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. K. P. Kuruvilla, and the treasurer, Rev. B. N. Fen seems to be that of engaging in shady deals of selling church properties or giving them for long lease in the shortest possible time without following the strictly laid out norms and procedures for selling them.

Such illegal transactions have already taken place in Munnar, Fort Kochi and Irutty and in many other places, the details of which are yet to be unearthed. One such land transaction in a long neglected congregation in Thalikulam, near Thrissur, that took place on 21/12/2009, is lifted up as a classic case for our further study and action.

In 2007, the Rt. Rev. K. P. Kuruvilla and the diocesan treasurer, Rev B. N. Fen entered into an agreement with Sri Abdul Khadar, Puthiya Veettil Kottalingal House, Uurumaniyoor P.O, Thrissur district, Kerala to sell Church properties surveyed under 101/5, 101/1A and 101/3A belonging to Chavakkadu Taluk, Thalikullam Village, totalling 2 acres and 73 cents for one lakh per cent and this agreement was continued to be revised every six months.

Finally, after almost three years , the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. K. P. Kuruvilla and the Treasurer of the Diocese, Rev. B.F.Fen, as power of attorneys of CSITA in North Kerala Diocese, on 21st of December 2009, executed three sale deeds, in violation of the directive from the CSITA against the sale of the said property and without following the procedures and norms demanded of selling trust lands. Thus, they sold 2 acres 23 cents to Sri Abdul Khader, 0.02 cents to Shri. P.G.Koshy, President, Sharon Fellowship, and 0.48 cents to Mohammad Salim, Ponnayur, Andathode P.O. Thrissur for a total amount of Rs. 95 lakhs 20 thousand.

While this is the amount shown in the sale deed, the proceeds from the sale are to the tune of 2 corer 73 lakhs, as per the agreement, is shown to be deposited in the CSITA account of the North Kerala Diocese in Shornur. The nature of the monetary transaction is not clear except that the amounts were deposited at different dates in the account of the CSITA Account in shornur.

It has also come to light that the final deposit of more than one crore was deposited only after a fortnight of the date on which final sale deed had been executed. These facts lend credence to the fraudulent and criminal nature of this deal. The following questions remain without any answer. The Bishop and the treasurer and the coterie of working committee are bound to answer these questions.

1. Some of the land transactions that have taken place in the recent past of the diocesan property in interior areas are for 1 to 2 lakhs of rupees per cent. The Thalikulam property which is by the side of NH17 should fetch at least a minimum of Rs. 4 lakhs per cent. Land worth Rs. 12 crore, by lowest estimates, has been sold for Rs. 2 core and 73 laks. Who are the persons in the administration of the diocese that have been illegally gratified themselves by this land deal and brought such heavy loss to the church and the CSITA?

2. How could they sell the land against the directive of the CSI synod not to sell it and by passing all the norms of transparency to be followed in the sale of Trust properties such as advertising the proposal for sale in leading news papers?

3. How could a public institution like the church, which should be above board when it comes to probity in public life, (leave alone any concern to be salt and light in a murky world), be party to a shady deal in which the financial transactions are not transparent and mostly unlawful.

4. How can they be party to falsely undervaluing the property in the sale deed and thus cause such heavy loss to the state exchequer.

What has been lost through these land transactions which are illegal and against the norms of truthfulness and transparency in public life is the credibility of Christian witness. These facts which are brought to your notice are true to the best of our knowledge and have been raised with at most responsibility. If any of my allegations are false they should prove it to the church and the public. Civil and criminal proceedings have been initiated against culprits.

The people in pew should not be mere spectators to this unfolding drama of nepotism and looting and besmirching of Christian faith. The rich inheritance that we have received from the missionaries is not to be squandered by a few within the church, but to be used for bearing credible witness to our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is only a tip of the iceberg. More are to be unearthed. It is a time when we should be vigilant and join in protest against such tarnishing of Christian witness and take a stand for truth, justice and love that has been exemplified in the person of Christ and to which we have been called to be witnesses.

PS: Subsequent to this reporting, I filed a civil suit in the Hon. Munsiff Court in Trichur and the court has passed a restraining order to the buyers from alienating the land, developing it and also burying the dead (a piece of the cemetery was also sold to Pentecostal Church). The court instituted a commission to visit the said property and satisfy for itself the nature and character of the land.

Vaniamkulam Church 2 Crore Trees Missing

The former Bishop’s House of the North Kerala Diocese of the Church South India is situated in a more rural location in - called Vaniamkulam. The old Bishop’s house still remains in a 13.5 acres lush green, much neglected compound, as a standing monument to our callous disregard of the legacy that we have inherited from the missionaries and of our lack of vision and mission as a church.

The total area of the compound was 17 acres and what remains with us now is only 13.5 acres. The rest of the land has been encroached by the henchmen of Bishops from time to time. This property which is of the nature of the forest in legal terms has been coming under the frontal attack of those whose eyes are only in monetary gain since past few years. In April 2009, the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev K P Kuruvilla, allowed the felling of 330 number of teakwood trees from Vaniamkulam CSITA property.

Mr. Stanly Paul of Vaniamkulam pastorate, Ottapalam, approached the District Vacation Court, Palakkad, and filed a suit, by original suit no. 164/09 and filed a civil miscellaneous petition no. 14/2009 at the of the Honorable Munsiff court of Ottapalam. The volume of trees felled valued around 2 crores. By the time, a court commission visited the place, most of the timber was transported and the balance timber left there in the property was assesses to value Rs. 65 lakhs by the court commission. But over a period of one year, circumventing the law of the land and the CSI constitution, the bishop managed to sell the timber left behind to a timber contractor and the amount credited till today on the sale of the timber is only a paltry sum of Rs. 5 lakhs. In effect under Bishop K P Kuruvilla’s initiative and leadership, teakwood worth Rs two crores was alienated for a paltry sum of Rs five lakhs. CSITA and its attorneys in North Kerala Dioceses owe an explanation to the church member as per chapter IV of the CSI constitution. We also need to know besides the Bishop, who else have profited from this clandestine deal which actually would have fetched 2 crores to the CSITA and the Diocese.

In April 2010, the Bishop, by misrepresenting facts, and without the knowledge of the Church Worker, the Presbyter in Charge, the Executive Committee and the Property Committee, fraudulently obtained a pass from forest authorities to fell 6 number of teakwood trees, under the pretext that would be required for the construction of the Bishops house at Shornur. However, using this permission, instead of six mature trees they fell 60 immature green teakwood trees below the girth of 1.5 meters, without adhering to any norm fixed for cutting the trees under the Kerala Preservation of Tree Act of 1986 and the Kerala Restriction on Cutting and Destruction of Valuable Trees Act 1974. It is to be assumed that this could not have happened without the connivance of the officials of the forest department.

However the local congregation members prevented the transportation of this huge volume of logs scattered all around this thirteen acre plot, approximately valued at Rs 50 lakhs. Bishop and his henchmen, some of them local party members are working overtime to prevent media from covering this gruesome slaughtering of trees and telecasting. However the scene was telecasted by the local channels at Shornur and Ottapalam. A complaint is being lodged with the range forest officer who is also officiating as tree officer by Mr. Shaju George of Vaniamkulam congregation. Everyone is looking forward to the unfolding drama associated with this in the coming days.

We are left with many unanswered questions. A few trees may be required for the construction of the Bishop house, what are we going to do with the remaining large volume, which is valued at 50 lakhs. Can the diocesan officers sell the rest of the logs felled without permission? If so what is its sale value, and to whom will they be sold and for what purpose would the money be put to use? Who should be made accountable to this illegal and at the same time unconstitutional act by the Bishop and his accomplices? These questions are to be discussed and responsibilities fixed by the executive committee and the property committee. The action taken should be informed to the congregations as every member of CSI is a rightful owner of these properties as per chapter IV of the CSI constitution. But they are now be stolen and squandered by the Bishop and a spineless group of officers.

All our prized processions which we have inherited from our forefathers from the great missionaries of CMS and Basal mission- our mission compounds- our inheritance which we keep close to our hearts are being looted, squandered and destroyed. Whether it is Thalikulam property, Fort Cochin English bungalow, or Munnar property, all are being squandered. It is time that we react. NO, we are not going to let the DEVIL steal, destroy and kill. Wearing God’s armour, which is the word of God, We are going to fight with ALL our might. We will NOT GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT! We are not going to let someone steal that which is ours, our most prized possessions.

The Bishop Boycott Campaign

The Bishop Boycott Campaign would like to congratulate you and those at the UTC on the institution completing 100 years.

We were in the audience yesterday (8th July 2010) when the Governor of Karnataka His Excellency H.R. Bharadwaj addressed the concluding function of your centenary celebrations at the UTC. Our apologies for gatecrashing the event without an invitation. But we could not resist seeing for ourselves how the Governor would react to being seated next to the Moderator of the CSI and Bishop of Karnataka Central Diocese S.Vasanthakumar. After all it was only two weeks earlier His Excellency had received a delegation in the Raj Bhavan bearing a petition seeking the arrest of Vasanthakumar and his family members in the criminal case that a Bangalore court had ordered a police investigation on.

In the event it was most encouraging to see His Excellency avoiding making eye contact with Vasanthakumar during the entire function. In fact after the function was over and before he walked off the stage the Governor actually turned to you and your principal to chat leaving Vasanthakumar looking like a security guard standing behind him. If the CSI head missed the message from the body language of His Excellency we are sure many in the audience did not.

Poor Advertisement

It was interesting how in his address as Chairperson of the UTC’s Centennial Celebration Committee, Vasanthakumar noted that “next to my parents and my primary school teacher it was UTC that shaped my destiny and my values.” While the poor sod meant that as a compliment to his alma mater, we are sure most UTC wellwishers would have cringed on hearing these words. There can be no worse advertisement for the UTC than to have Vasanthakumar as your ex-student and, worse, for him to advertise that his values were shaped by the UTC . Of course since he dipped into CSI school funds and gave you Rs 1.5 crore, to put up a building in honour of his principal the late Russell Chandran, one supposes you really had no choice but to make this eminent crook the entirely ceremonial chairman of your centennial celebration committee.

What must be even more disturbing for UTC wellwishers was Vasanthakumar’s statement that currently 15 of the 22 bishops in the CSI are ex-UTC students. While again the poor sod meant that as a compliment, he only caused embarrassment to the UTC as many of these15 are involved in various crimes. The CSI Rogue’s Gallery in fact is headed by none other than Vasanthakumar himself. Then there is the Chennai Bishop Devasahayam (who has gone to the Supreme Court to try and ensure the chair that he has glued to his bottom for the last 10 years is not prised away), the Coimbatore Bishop Dorai (who recently spent a stint in jail) the North Kerala Diocese Bishop Kuruvilla (who is busy making money from selling church property) ……the list is long as are the crimes of those in it.

In fact the Bishop boycott campaign was witness to the amusing sight of Bishop Kuruvilla,buttonholing Vasanthakumar immediately after the function yesterday and seeking his advice on how to handle the recent court orders slapped on him. After all who better to give advice to a crook than a fellow crook! More power to our friends at http://savecsi.blogspot.com/ who have systematically exposed Kuruvilla’s many crimes. For his part Vasanthakumar lamented to Kuruvilla how both their names had figured in the many emails exposing corruption that had gone out to foreign donors leading to a choking off of overseas funding to the church.

Curriculum Shortcomings

The Bishop Boycott Campaign recently went through the curriculum of your courses in the UTC (as contained in your college handbook 2009-10) and found that while you offer, as part of the Bachelor of Divinity programme, everything from Advanced English to Skill Development in Communication and A Critique of Development and Modernisation there is virtually nothing on what ails the church today. In fact while much of the curriculum is outward looking (as indeed it should be) there is a virtual exclusion of anything looking inward at the burning problems in the church today. What your students should be critiquing is not the ills of modern development but plain old fashioned corruption that is going on unchecked within many churches – all while acting in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ of course!

The Bishop Boycott Campaign would like to suggest that you introduce a course on “Corruption in the Church” We recommend (tongue firmly in cheek of course) that you use a case study approach to this course where students are encouraged to study corruption as it has manifested itself in the Church -- whether in the forgery techniques employed by Vasanthakumar to prepare false documents or Bishop Dorai’s modus operandi in stealing Rs 3 crore of diocesan funds. Unless future pastors are familiarized with these methods of committing crimes they probably will not recognize it when they see it being done by their bishop!

One of your illustrious predecessors as the UTC head the late Vasanth P. Dandin (who gave the CSI the “gift” of Vasanthakumar as bishop) was no less a master in this art of making a fast buck. He used to insist on being paid airfare to travel between Dharwad (where he was Bishop) and Bangalore when he came for meetings. The small problem of there being no air service between the two cities did not deter him. First class rail fare was just not good enough for him and the unhappy compromise had to be settling for the higher taxi fare for a journey where no taxi was involved. There was of course the other problem of his arranging three different meetings in Bangalore on a single visit and taking travel benefits from all three, a problem that has not entirely gone away we understand.

The Bishop Boycott Campaign's challenge to the UTC

The Bishop Boycott Campaign calls on the UTC to issue public letters to all bishops who are its ex-students and whose criminal deeds have been published in newspapers to offer an explanation for their misdeeds. If there is no response, the UTC should write to the Income Tax authorities to have these ex-students and their bank accounts investigated. Further the Bishop Boycott Campaign urges the UTC to hold a public hearing along the lines of the jan sunwai made famous by the MKSS in Rajasthan, where church members having evidence of the wrongdoings of bishops present the same before an independent jury. The accused Bishops should also be invited to defend themselves. The Bishop Boycott Campaign will more than happily participate publicly in this cleansing process.

Since apart from the CSI, the UTC has several other denominations represented in its midst, there will be no shortage of corruption cases to study. We will even recommend that you influence Vasanthakumar to institute an endowment for the “Study of Corruption in the Church” and invite him to be on the guest faculty along with his fellow bishops from Chennai, Coimbatore, North Kerala, etc. It could well turn out to be the most popular course you have ever run in the UTC’s 100-year history.

On a more serious note, the Bishop Boycott Campaign understands that your major problem in the UTC today is dependence on diocesan funds to finance the activities of the institution. With the drying up of Mission funds, the UTC is at the mercy of the Bishops, corrupt or otherwise, for its sustenance. This means you are handicapped in fighting the injustice being perpetrated on the church by those who are meant to be its chief guardians. But taken beyond a point, this problem of funding can also become a justification for inaction. What efforts has the UTC made to reduce its dependence on diocesan funds? The Christian community in India (many members of which are extremely well placed in life) can provide the funds the UTC needs to free itself of the diocesan stranglehold. Unfortunately tapping into this ready source would require having both vision and leadership of the kind that is missing in the UTC of today.

Quality of Students

Finally we want to offer some advice on improving the quality of students you currently get at the UTC. As we all know, to a large extent, the quality of the output is pre-determined by the quality of the initial input. We also know that the best and brightest do not want to become priests. In fact finding a first class graduate wanting to join a B.D. programme would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. But we believe this problem is also because of the inadequate appreciation among the public at large of the benefits of becoming a priest.

With government jobs shrinking thanks to liberalization, the church offers some of the few remaining assured lifetime employment opportunities with benefits that are hard to find anywhere else. As any CSI pastor in Bangalore can testify, these benefits include getting a job for the wife in a CSI school (even if she is not adequately qualified for it) free tuition for the children in CSI schools, medical insurance cover of Rs 2 lakhs, a residence free of rent, vehicle with fuel and a starting salary of around Rs 15,000. There are also the thousands to be made each month from covers that grateful parishioners slip quietly for officiating at marriages, baptisms, etc. Even in retirement such covers provide a steady stream of undisclosed income apart from the official pension.

Above all, there is the unmatched respect that the priesthood commands. Most people would give an arm and a leg to have others kowtowing to them in public and, hey, priests don’t even have to stand in queues to get their food at say a marriage reception! For the venal-minded clergy of course, there is lakhs to be made from mediating school admissions, selling church property for personal gain, negotiating below market rentals for church property, etc. Who said priesthood is an unattractive proposition? Perhaps the UTC should advertise the legitimate benefits of priesthood to attract good fee paying students to join the institution. Currently virtually all your students are financed by the dioceses (which also means you have little control over who joins).

If some of our criticism of the UTC seems unduly harsh, our regret is that it is not harsher. The UTC is largely seen by the lay person today, and rightly so, as an ossified institution reluctant to address the many ills that plague the wider Christian church. And by continuing to remain silent on the widespread and open corruption that exists at the highest echelons of the CSI church (the second largest in terms of membership after the Roman Catholic church in India), you offer little hope for a better future for Christians everywhere. But that does not stop us from wishing the UTC all the very best for its second century.

Bishop Cotton Saga – The Untold Story of How and Why the Greedy Head of the CSI is Destroying Two of its Greatest Institutions

The 2nd June 2010 decision of the Karnataka High Court to uphold the transfer orders served on the principals of the two, century-old, Church of South India (CSI)-run Bishop Cotton Schools in Bangalore (See http://www.deccanherald.com/content/73100/hc-upholds-bishop-cotton-school.html ) should come as no great surprise.

Readers will recall that the principals of both schools had gone public over gross interference by their respective school management committees in the matter of new student admissions. They had also accused the committees of stripping them of their powers, of humiliating them in front of students, of interfering in routine decision making, etc See http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/Bishop-Cotton-school-principals-to-resign/articleshow/5720406.cms The two principals resigned only to, just as quickly, withdraw their resignations citing support from parents and alumni associations to do so. The Executive Committee of the CSI Karnataka Central Diocese, headed by Bishop Vasantha Kumar (pictured above with English Bishop Neil Alexander), responded by issuing transfer orders to the two principals (and to some others as well to make it appear the transfers were not vindictive action against the two principals for going to the media with their woes).

The principals then took the legal route to get their transfer orders rescinded. However, their appeal that the transfers were unprecedented in nature and constituted vindictive action, did not find find favour with the Karnataka High Court. The court ruled that just because the transfers were a first-of-their-kind action, that did not invalidate them. Clearly the court was only concerned with the letter of the law (i.e the right provided to the CSI under its rules to effect such transfers). To be fair to the court, it was somewhat handicapped in considering whether the spirit behind the transfer provision had been violated. This due to the well disguised action of the CSI executive committee which had transferred the two principals along with several others.

The immediate fallout of the high court ruling is that Princess Franklyn (pictured), the principal of Bishop Cotton Girls School (estb 1911) will now stay in her new post as principal of the relatively less prestigious and less financially well endowed St. John’s School. But the Bishop Cotton Boys School (estb: 1865) principal Col. John Ellis, widely regarded as an efficient administrator and a no-nonsense army man, has chosen to resign rather than proceed to take charge as principal of the second-rung Cathedral School.

Cause of Crisis

So what precipitated this crisis in the first place? The BBC’s investigations reveal that the origin of the problem goes back to changes made to the 13-member School Management Committees of the two schools earlier this year. And those changes were themselves the result of the high drama that surrounded the election of Bishop Vasantha Kumar as Moderator of the CSI in January 2010. The Bishop, say informed church insiders, liberally used both money and muscle power to win the election for the Moderator’s post. They say as many as 11 bishops (who control roughly 15 votes each in the Synod) were approached with lakhs of rupees in cash; 9 are said to have accepted and distributed part of the spoils to their fellow synod members while two refused. But with victory virtually purchased came an unexpected problem for Bishop Vasantha Kumar. On 12th January 2010, two days before the crucial church polls, a civil judge in Nelamangala, just outside Bangalore, passed an order restraining him from participating in the two-day Synod meeting. Reason: the court noted there were “serious allegations made against the defendants regarding misuse of Tsunami Relief Funds etc.”

Bishop Vasantha Kumar had served as Deputy Moderator of the CSI between 2004 and 2008, a period during which the Tsunami funds were misused. He is reportedly close to the prime accused in the Tsunami funds scandal, the former general secretary of the CSI Synod Pauline Satyamurthy, who is accused of siphoning off a whopping Rs seven crore from foreign funds received to alleviate the misery of those who were hit by the disaster. Some sources put the figure swindled by even higher at Rs 18 crore. Pauline Satyamurthy has an arrest warrant out against her and has been on the run from the law ever since, though her daughter was arrested in the case late last year. See http://www.deccanchronicle.com/chennai/csi-kin-swindles-tsunami-aid-funds-944 The BBC also has in its possession a copy of the letter dated Nov 9, 2007 from the President of the US based aid agency Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) announcing suspension of the ERD’s programme partnership with the CSI. This as the CSI Synod had been “unable to provide the information and documentation” necessary for global auditing firm Grant Thornton to complete an audit of the ERD’s Tsunami-related funding.

Election Drama

Getting back to the CSI synod election, Bishop Vasantha Kumar and his busload of supporters had, as per the Nelamangala court order, to cool their heels outside the meeting hall Kalaivanar Arangam at Courtallam, Tamil Nadu, on the first day of the two-day Synod meeting. But Vasantha Kumar is not a man easily beaten. For him at age 63 this was his last chance to become Moderator of the CSI (he had lost the biennial election for Moderator in 2008) as CSI Bishops have to retire at 65 as per the church constitution. And this time he was prepared to do whatever it took to get himself elected. In sheer desperation the Bishop turned to a senior Christian judicial officer to call in a past favour done (see box below: The Case of the Curious Marriage).

On the afternoon of the second day of the CSI Synod, Bishop Vasantha Kumar triumphantly entered the meeting hall telling the Moderator J.W.Gladstone, who was in charge of proceedings, that he had obtained a stay from the Karnataka High Court on the Nelamangala court order. Even without being shown the High Court order, Gladstone allowed Vasantha Kumar to contest for the Mcderator’s post which, not surprisingly, he won.

Sources say the court order itself was not signed by the judge involved until much later in the day after the CSI election was over. Even more curious was the timing of Court hearing. As Bangalore Mirror reported on 28th January 2010: “The High Court of Karnataka held a session on January 14 — an official holiday (Makara Sankranti) — to hear a writ petition by Bishop Vasantha Kumar and stayed the order of the Nelamangala court. Justice K Bhakthavatsala heard the petition and passed the order. Now, more than the election, the High Court’s functioning on a holiday is raising eyebrows.” A legal challenge was mounted questioning the validity of Vasanthakumar’s election but he, using church funds, hired no less a legal eagle than Nalini Chidambaram ( the wife of home minister P. Chidambaram) to fight the case in the Madras High Court which she duly won.

The Case of The Curious Marriage

On 15th December 2008, the daughter of now mired-in-controversy Karnataka Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran got married in grand style at St. Marks Cathedral, Bangalore. According to church records Ms D. Amudhaporkodi (Dinakaran’s daughter) married Mr Vignesh Mahadevan, son of one Mr P.N. Mahadevan from Mylapore, Chennai. Curiously the baans certificate No 325 issued by St. Marks Cathedral ( a copy of which is with the BBC) shows the bride as being from St. Marks Cathedral but against the groom’s name the church to which he belongs is left blank. Sources say baans cannot be read if the bride or the groom are of a different faith, unless a conversion happens first. Even in the case of a civil marriage involving people of different faiths, a blessing can be held in the church, but no baans is permitted. Yet the certificate signed by the presybter-in-charge of St. Marks Cathedral shows baans having been read on 30/11/2008, 7/12/2008 and again on 14/12/2008. Sources say such an unprecedented action would not have happened but for the direct intervention of the bishop himself.

Impact of Vasantha Kumar’s Victory on Bishop Cotton Schools

Following the election of their man to the CSI’s highest post, it was time for Vasantha Kumar’s biggest supporters, many goons among them, to now claim their share of the spoils. Sometime in February they, with the Bishop’s help, wormed their way into the recast School Management Committees of the two Bishop Cotton schools. Admissions in both schools are highly sought after and it is not uncommon for seats to be unofficially sold for over a lakh of rupees each.

But some of the new Management Committee members were reportedly not prepared to wait even for the new admission season to start. They had already, with the help of junior school staff, begun diverting school fees collected from parents into their own pockets. When Col. Ellis of the Boys School (pictured) issued a memo to the offending staff, the Bishop instead of supporting the principal asked him to withdraw the memo and threatened he would convene the Executive Committee of the Diocese to suspend him for harassing staff if he did not withdraw the memo within a specified date. This was one of the immediate triggers for push coming to shove and the principals deciding to go public with their complaints.

The new school management committees also did away with another time-honoured practice. It has been the tradition for principals of both schools to shortlist the students for new admissions on the basis of various criteria including if their parents were CSI members, whether they had siblings studying in the same school, whether there were important letters of recommendation backing particular applicants, etc. In normal course most of the names the principal recommended was accepted, except for a small discretionary quota which was controlled by the management committee. This year the principals were bluntly told their recommendations were not required and they were to submit only the details of all applicants (including the crucial phone numbers) and it would be the management committees of the two schools that would select all new students. When they resisted this, various threats were issued and their functioning was made impossible. And then it was not long before news of seats being sold by management committee members started hitting the papers. Seehttp://www.deccanherald.com/content/66747/rs-1-lakh-pocketed-no.html

The implications of having greedy mercenaries on their boards who sell seats to the highest bidder are horrendous for the two schools. These are institutions of great repute (a 2009 all-India survey conducted by Cfore & EducationWorld magazine ranked Bishop Cotton Boys as the second best school in South India) and hold the future of some 8,000 children in their hands in any given year. Not only will the recent changes lower the quality of students who enter these schools, but the rot will inevitably spread to other areas like teachers being appointed for kickbacks paid rather than merit. Soon everybody who is anybody in the schools will be on the take for just about everything. And that would virtually mean curtains for these two great institutions which between them have nearly 250 years of history and count among their alumni famous names like Nandan

Parents protest against schools higher fees

Chennai: Parents of students at the CSI Bains School in Kilpauk blocked traffic in the area to protest against the school for collecting fees higher than that proposed by the Fee Determination Committee.
A parent on condition of anonymity said,The school collected a high fees in the first term,but it did not give us a receipt for the amount.When they collected the fees for the first term they told us that they had sent a revised fee structure to be approved by the committee and would refund or adjust the fees in the remaining terms in the academic year.But now they are evasive.Every year they put up the fee structure on the notice board,however they have not put it up this year.Why the secrecy.Some parents said that they had complained to the fee determination committee against the school.
Headmistress of the school Lenora James said,We collect the second terms fees around this time.Why should this year be any different The fee structure given by the committee will not suffice to even pay salaries,so we have appealed for a higher fees.The committee promised to respond within a month.It has been three months and we still havent heard from them.So we have started collecting our usual fees.

தற்போது அரையாண்டு கல்வி கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கப்படுகிறது. கடந்த ஆண்டை விட இந்த ஆண்டு 10 மடங்கு கட்டணம் கூடுதலாக வசூலிப்பதாக பெற்றோர்கள் புகார் தெரிவித்தனர்.

இதையடுத்து 300-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பெற்றோர்கள் காலை 8 மணிக்கு பள்ளி முன் திரண்டு முற்றுகையிட்டனர். பின்னர் ரோட்டில் அமர்ந்து மறியலில் ஈடுபட்டனர். தகவல் அறிந்து போலீசார் அங்கு வந்தனர்.

பள்ளி நிர்வாகத்திடம் பெற்றோர்கள் பேச்சு நடத்த ஏற்பாடு செய்தனர். பள்ளி தலைமை ஆசிரியை ஷீலா சுரேஷிடம் பெற்றோர்கள் கூடுதல் கட்டணம் வசூலிப்பது குறித்து விளக்கம் கேட்டனர். அரசு நிர்ணயித்த கல்வி கட்டணத்தை வசூலிக்க வேண்டும் என்று கூறினாலும் அதையும் மீறி அதிக அளவில் கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கிறீர்கள் என்று தெரிவித்தனர்.

அதற்கு தலைமை ஆசிரியை, பள்ளி நிர்வாக செலவு அதிகமாக இருக்கிறது. கூடுதலாக கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கவில்லை என்றால் பள்ளியை நடத்த இயலாது. கட்டணம் அதிகமாக இருப்பதாக நீங்கள் கருதினால் வேறு பள்ளியில் உங்கள் குழந்தைகளை சேருங்கள் என்றார்.

இதனால் ஆத்திரம் அடைந்த பெற்றோர்கள் வாக்குவாதத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர். பள்ளி தலைமை நிர்வாகியிடம் பேசிய பிறகுதான் எந்த முடிவும் எடுக்க முடியும் என்று தலைமை ஆசிரியை தெரிவித்தார்.

அதுவரையில் கல்வி கட்டணம் செலுத்தமாட்டோம். உங்களது முடிவை தெரிவித்த பிறகு நாங்கள் செலுத்த தயாராக இருக்கிறோம் என்று பெற்றோர்கள் தரப்பில் எடுத்து கூறினார்கள்.

பெற்றோர்கள் மற்றும் மாணவர்கள் பெயர்களுடன் கோரிக்கை மனு எழுதி தருமாறு பள்ளி நிர்வாகம் கேட்டது. அதற்கு பெற்றோர்கள் மறுத்துவிட்டனர்.

இதுகுறித்து வினோத்குமார் என்பவர் கூறும்போது, எனது மகள் 1-ம் வகுப்பு படித்து வருகிறாள். அரையாண்டு கல்வி கட்டணம் ரூ.6,431 செலுத்த கூறுகிறார்கள். இது 10 மடங்கு அதிகம் ஆகும். கட்டணம் செலுத்துவது குறித்து வழக்கமாக பெற்றோர்களுக்கு கடிதம் அனுப்புவார்கள். இந்த முறை கடிதம் அனுப்பவில்லை.

குழந்தைகளுக்கு எந்த அடிப்படை வசதியும் செய்து தரப்படவில்லை. ஆனால் கட்டணம் மட்டும் அதிக அளவில் வசூலிக்கிறார்கள். அரசு நிர்ணயித்த கட்டணத்தைத்தான் வசூலிக்க வேண்டும். அதற்கு மேல் எங்களால் தர இயலாது என்றார்.

Parents protest against hike in fees continues

Chennai: Even as schools wait for the high court verdict on their appeal on the fee issue,more and more parents are protesting against institutions collecting high fees.
On Tuesday,parents of students of Sethu Bhaskara Matriculation Higher Secondary School,Ambattur,CSI Bains MHSS,Kilpauk and CSI Jessie Moses School,Anna Nagar gathered in front of the respective institutions in protest.
Asked why it couldnt follow the structure proposed,the management says it would not be able to run the school with such low fees, said a parent of a student of CSI Jessie Moses School.
A spokesperson for the school said: It has been the practice to raise fees every three years and we raised it this year too.We have appealed to the Fee Determination Committee for a revised structure.
Around 300 parents gathered in front of Sethu Bhaskara MHSS demanding why a special fee of Rs 200 was being collected.They said that the management first refused to meet them but did so after the police came.
The said the Rs 200 was for a library.On the high fees,we were told it would be discussed at a meeting and the date and time would be informed through the school diary.Now the school charges Rs 35,000-40,000 for Class I whereas the committee says a maximum of Rs 5,000 can be collected for children in this age group, said a parent.
The management said it had told parents the fees collected would be adjusted during the academic year if its appeal for a revised structure was rejected.Once the court verdict is out we will abide by it, said principal Selvakumar.

சென்னையில் பெரும்பாலான தனியார் பள்ளிகளில் நீதிபதி கோவிந்தராஜன் கமிட்டி நிர்ணயித்த கல்வி கட்டணத்தை விட கூடுதலாக கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கப்பட்டது. இதை கண்டித்து சென்னை கீழ்ப்பாக்கத்தில் உள்ள பெய்ன் மெட்ரிக் குலேஷன் பள்ளி, அண்ணா நகரில் உள்ள சி.எஸ்.ஐ. ஜெசிமோசஸ் மெட்ரிக் குலேஷன் பள்ளிகளில் பெற்றோர்கள் கடந்த வாரம் முற்றுகையிட்டு போராட்டம் நடத்தினார்கள்.

இந்த நிலையில் தனியார் பள்ளிகளுக்கு நீதிபதி கோவிந்தராஜன் கமிட்டி நிர்ணயம் செய்த புதிய கல்விக் கட்டணத்தை இந்த ஆண்டில் அமல்படுத்த சென்னை ஐகோர்ட்டு இடைக்கால தடை விதித்தது.

இதனால் இன்று காலை கீழ்ப்பாக்கம் பெய்ன் மெட்ரிக்குலேசன் பள்ளியில் பெற்றோர்கள் மீண்டும் முற்றுகையிட்டனர். 100-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பெற்றோர்கள் அங்கு கூடினார்கள். ஐகோர்ட்டு விதித்துள்ள இடைக்கால தடை என்பது நிபந்தனை தீர்ப்பு அல்ல. எனவே கூடுதல் கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கக் கூடாது என்று அவர்கள் கோஷமிட்டனர். இதனால் இன்று காலை அந்த வழியாக போக்குவரத்து பாதிக்கப்பட்டது.

அண்ணா நகர் சி.எஸ்.ஐ. ஜெசிமோசஸ் மெட்ரிக்குலேசன் பள்ளியில் கல்விக்கட்டணம் தொடர்பாக இன்று முடிவு அறிவிப்பதாக கூறி பெற்றோருக்கு அழைப்பு விடுத்திருந்தனர். இதை ஏற்று இன்று காலை பெற்றோர்கள் பள்ளிக்கு சென்றனர்.

ஆனால் பள்ளி முன்பு குவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த போலீசார் பெற்றோர்களை உள்ளே அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. அவர்களை வாசலிலேயே தடுத்து நிறுத்தினார்கள். இதனால் இன்று மீண்டும் பெற்றோர்கள் பள்ளியை முற்றுகையிட்டனர். உள்ளே விட மறுத்த போலீசாருடன் வாக்கு வாதத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர். அவர்களை போலீசார் விரட்டியடித்தனர்.

இதற்கு பெற்றோர்கள் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தனர். சில பெற்றோர் அங்கு பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபட்ட இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் மீது துணை கமிஷனரிடம் புகார் அளித்துள்ளனர்.

இது தொடர்பாக ஜெசி மோசஸ் பள்ளி மாணவியின் தந்தை பாலமுருகன் கூறியதாவது:-

பள்ளி நிர்வாகம் கூடுதல் கல்வி கட்டணம் வசூலிப்பதில் தீவிரமாக உள்ளது. அதை செலுத்த நாங்கள் தயாராக இல்லை. கட்டணம் வசூலிப்பது குறித்து இன்று முடிவு தெரிவிப்பதாக கூறினர். ஆனால் இப்போது எதையும் சொல்ல மறுக்கிறார்கள். இதனால் பெற்றோர்கள் ஒன்றாக சேர்ந்து பள்ளியின் மீது வழக்கு தொடர முடிவு

செய்துள்ளோம்.

இது சம்பந்தமாக இன்று மாலை வில்லிவாக்கம் நாதமுனி தியேட்டர் அருகே உள்ள காமகோடி திருமணமண்டபத்தில் பெற்றோர்கள் கூட்டம் நடக்கிறது. இதில் 300-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பெற்றோர்கள் கலந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். இதில் பள்ளி மீது வழக்கு தொடர்வது பற்றி அடுத்த கட்ட நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்.

Parents want TN govt to challenge HC fee order

Chennai: Disappointed with the Madras high court verdict staying the government order asking schools to abide by the Justice Govindarajan Fee Committees recommendations this year,parents of children studying in matriculation schools have started fresh protests against schools charging high fees.They are also demanding that the government appeal against the verdict.
On Thursday morning,parents gathered in front of Anna Adarsh Matriculation School in Anna Nagar to protest against the school management for raising the fees.They demanded to know why the school management did not inform them about the fee hike at the beginning of the academic year.
Ramesh Lamba,general secretary,Adarsh Group of Schools,said,We converted the classrooms in three of our schools into smart classrooms to incorporate digital content while teaching.We spent Rs 2 lakh on each of the 177 classrooms last year.So we decided to raise the fees to meet these expenses and to raise the salary of the teachers.We gave the parents these reasons and they understood our situation.
On Wednesday,parents of children studying in SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Anna Nagar West and Gill Adarsh Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Royapettah staged protests against the respective school managements.
After the high court verdict on September 14 staying the government order asking schools to collect only the fees prescribed by the Fee Determination Committee,several schools across the state sent home circulars asking parents to pay higher term fees.Some schools like SBOA have raised the fees by collecting between Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000 extra for various classes,and others like CSI Jessie Moses have raised the fees this year when compared to last year.A spokesperson for the school said that the school management raised the fees every three years,and that this year would be no different.
Members of the newly formed Tamil Nadu Federation of Student Parent Association said they would go on a mass demonstration on October 9.The 25-member federation has said it would also make a third party appeal against the stay and would ask parents to be added as respondents in the case to be heard on November 29.A senior official in the school education department said,We have made a note of the demands of the parents.We are holding discussions with the government counsel to see if we should appeal against the stay order.

பிஷப்பை எதிர்க்கும் உறுப்பினர்கள் பூட்டை உடைத்து வேலை செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார்களாம்: டி.இ.எல்.சி.,யின் நிர்வாகக்குழுவை கலைத்து பிஷப் மார்ட்டின் உத்தரவிட்டிருந்தாலும், நேற்று காலை வழக்கம் போல் சபையின் அலுவலகத்தை திறந்து நிர்வாகக்குழு உறுப்பினர்கள் பணிகளை கவனித்தனர். அதாவது பிஷப் பூட்டிய அலுவலகத்தை உடைத்துத் திறந்து உள்ளே நுழந்து வேலை செய்து கொண்டிருந்தனராம். பிரச்னையால் அங்கு பாலக்கரை போலீஸார் குவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தனர்.

School correspondent roughed up by parents

Chennai: An altercation between a section of parents and the management of a matriculation school in Perambur ended with the correspondent being roughed up by the parents on Wednesday.
The incident began with a few parents of the students of Kaligi Ranganathan Montford Matriculation Higher Secondary School asking for money from other parents at the school gate to start an association to represent parents of the school in their claim for lower fees.When R J Bhuvanesh,CEO of the school,questioned them about it,an argument ensued and one of the parents allegedly attacked Bhuvanesh and he sustained injuries to his face.
He has been admitted to Stanley Medical Hospital.The school management has filed a complaint with the local police station.The management has said that the school would be closed on Thursday on account of this incident and that it would remain closed till action is taken against the parent.Around 500 staff members will go on a fast on Thursday demanding action.
It is ironic that these parents who have been protesting against school managements for the sake of money have now kicked of a law and order situation because of money that they are collecting, said Purushothaman,correspondent of Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kolathur.
Around 500 school heads,all wearing black shirts,will congregate at the school in Perambur on Thursday to express their solidarity with the school correspondent on the unfortunate turn of events.
The sanctity of the school is lost and cases of violence are turning up.Both the law and order and school education departments to take serious note of this incident and see to it that a few anti-social elements do not hold schools ransom, said P Vishnucharan,spokesperson for the federation of matriculation schools in the state.

No Responsible person would ever sanction transactions of this type and this is why it has created such a huge scandal which has discredited the Diocese and the Church and in our view.

This one head of charge alone would be sufficient to totally disqualify Bishop-Dorai from continuing as the Head of the Diocese.

அரசாங்க ரோடுக்காக CSI பள்ளி கட்டிடங்களின் மையமாக உள்ள நிலம் கேட்கிறது தமிழ்நாடு அரசாங்கம். ஈரோட்டில் உள்ள இந்து தீவிரவாதிகளின் தூண்டுதலால் இந்த ஏற்பாடு நடக்கிறது. பிரப் மிஷனரி அவர்கள் விலைகொடுத்து வாங்கிய நிலமும் அந்தகாலத்து பள்ளியும், சமூக ஸ்தாபனங்களும் உள்ளடக்கிய CSI காம்பவுண்டை உடைத்து, கட்டிடங்களை தகர்த்து ரோடு போட நிலம் வேண்டுமாம். அது Highway Road-அல்ல, ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனுக்கு போக குறுக்கு பாதையாக அமையும். ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன் செல்ல அகன்ற ரோடு ஏற்கனவே இருக்க மிஷனரிகள் வாங்கிப்போட்ட புராதன சரித்திர பிரசித்திப்பெற்ற காம்பவுண்டையும், கட்டிடங்களையும் இடித்துவிட்டு ரோடு போடுவதற்காக விட்டுக்கொடுப்பதில் நியாயம் இல்லையே. பொதுமக்கள் உபயோகத்துக்கு நல்லகாரியத்துக்கு எதைவேண்டுமானாலும் தியாகம் செய்யலாம். ஆனால் ஏற்கனவே அதற்கான பாதை விசாலமாக இருக்கும்போது இந்த குறிப்பிட்ட நிலம்தான் வேண்டும் என்பதில் உள்நோக்கம் இருப்பதாக தெரிகிறது. பிரப் சபைமக்கள் சாலை மறியல், உண்ணாவிரத போராட்டம் மூலம் அரசாங்கத்திற்கு தங்கள் எதிர்ப்பை அதிருப்தியை அறிவித்துவிட்டார்கள். இவர்கள் கோரிக்கையில் நியாயம் உண்டு என்பதால்தான் நீதிமன்றமும் STAY ஆர்டர் கொடுத்துவிட்டது. ஜெபிப்போம்.

பிஷப்.துரை விஷயத்தில் நீதிபதியின் தீர்ப்பின்படி CSI மாடரேட்டர்Most Rt.Rev.S.வசந்தகுமார் மனது வைத்தால் பிஷப்.துரை அவர்களை பதவி நீக்கம் செய்து உத்தரவிடலாம். ஆனால் மாடரேட்டர் அவர்கள் அப்படி செய்ய தயக்கம் காட்டிவருவதாக கூறுகிறார்கள். காரணம் அவருடைய பெங்களுர் டையோசிஸ்ஸில் சுமார் 18 வழக்குகளில்அவர் அகப்பட்டுள்ளார். அதில் பெங்களூரில் பிரபலமான இரண்டு பள்ளிகளின் பல கோடி பணம் தன் பெயரிலும், தன் மனைவி.நிர்மலா பெயரிலும் Joint Account பேங்க்கில் ஓப்பன் செய்து அந்த பள்ளிகளின் பணவரவு முழுவதும் டையோசிஸ் அக்கவுண்ட்க்கு போகாமல் தங்கள் தனி அக்கவுண்ட்க்கு போய் சேருமாறு பிஷப் செய்துவிட்டார். இந்த வழக்கில் ஆதாரத்துடன் கையும் களவுமாக மாடரேட்டர் அகப்பட்டுக்கொண்டார். அந்த ஊழலில் மாடரேட்டருக்கு பல கோடிகள் சேர்ந்துவிட்டது. அந்த குறிப்பிட்ட பேங்க் அக்கவுண்ட் நெம்பருக்கு பள்ளி பணம் சேரும்படி கல்லூரிக்கும், பள்ளிகளிலும் பிஷப் கட்டளையிட்ட ஆதாரங்கள் யாவும் வெளியரங்கமாகிவிட்டது. கையும், களவுமாக பிடிக்கப்பட்டு 2010 செப்டம்பர் மாதம் 4ம் தேதி பிஷப்புக்கும், அவர் மனைவிக்கும் கைது வாரண்ட் அனுப்பப்பட்டது. இதில் மாடரேட்டரும், பெங்களுர் திருமண்டல பிஷப்புமான Rt.Rev.வசந்தகுமார் அவரின் மனைவி.நிர்மலாவுக்கும் கைது வாரண்ட் பிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பிஷப் அவர்களின் மனைவி.நிர்மலா அவர்கள் நல்ல பக்தியுள்ளவர், திருமண்டலத்தில் உள்ள தாய்மார் சங்கத்தில் உள்ள பல பெண்களுக்கு ஆறுதலின் தாயாக ஜெபிக்கும் ஆவிக்குரியவராகவும் இருந்தார்.

ஆனால் அனனியா-சப்பிராள்போல பாவமான காரியத்தில் கணவருக்கு கீழ்படியும் வண்ணமாக பல பாவத்துக்கும், பணக்கொள்ளைக்கும் மனைவியும் உடந்தையானார். மாடரேட்டர்மேல் மொத்தம் 18 கேஸ்கள் உண்டு என்று கூறுகிறார்கள். அதில் பல கேஸ்களில் அவருக்கு கைது வாரண்ட் உண்டு. முன்ஜாமீனில் இருக்கும் இப்படிப்பட்டவர் கோவை பிஷப்.துரை அவர்களின் பிரச்சனையை எப்படி தீர்ப்பார்? நீர் யோக்கியமா? என்ற பிஷப்.துரை அவர்கள் கேள்விக்கு மாடரேட்டர் பதில் அளிக்கமுடியாமல் அவர் மீது எந்த நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவும் தயங்குகிறார்.

CSI சினாட் கமிட்டி தீர்மானமாக முடிவெடுத்தால் பிஷப்.துரை திரும்ப பதவிக்கு வரமுடியாது-சீக்கிரமே கோவை திருமண்டலத்துக்கு நல்ல பிஷப் பொறுப்பெடுக்கமுடியும். இது எப்போது நடக்கும்? தெரியாது!

ஏரியா சேர்மேன் பதவி வகிக்கும் ஒரு குருவானவரே பெரிய பணக்கொள்ளைக்கு முழு உடந்தையாகிவிட்டு எனக்கு தெரியாது! அதிகாரி கட்டளையிட்டதால் தவறு செய்துவிட்டேன் என்றால் நீதிபதி நம்பவேண்டுமே? பிஷப், ரௌடிகளை அழைத்து சென்று காரியங்களை நடத்திவிட்டுவா என்று குருவானவருக்கு கட்டளையிட்டால் குண்டர்களுடன் (ரௌடிகளுடன்) உடனே செல்கிறார்.ஆராதனையின் நடுவில் என்னை எதிர்க்கிறவர்கள் தைரியமாக வாருங்கள், நான் அங்கியை கழற்றிவிட்டு வருகிறேன். அதன்பின் நீயா? நானா? என்று பார்த்துவிடுவோம்! என்று நட்டநடு ஆராதனையில் ஒரு ரௌடியைப்போல் சவால்விட்டால் சபைமக்கள் தன்னை எப்படி எடைபோடுவார்கள் என்று யோசிக்ககூடாதா? பிரசங்கம், பாட்டு கவர்ச்சியாக இருந்து என்ன பயன். மிஷனரி ஊழியம், ஜெபக்குழுக்கள் இவை யாவையும் கவனிக்கும்போது இவரின் இரட்டை வேடம், இரட்டை நடிப்பு நன்றாக விளங்குகிறதே! அங்கிக்குள் ஒரு மனிதன், அங்கி கழட்டினால் வேறொரு மனிதன்? இந்த இரட்டைவேடம் ஊழியத்துக்கு நல்லதா? நிலைமை இப்படியிருக்க இரவு நேரத்தில் இவரின் பலவீனம் சபைமக்கள் அனைவராலும் பேசப்படும் ஒன்றாகும். என்ன பரிதாபம்! கர்த்தர் உள்ளத்தை அறிகிறவர் என்பது இப்படிப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு தெரியாதா? போலீஸ் அப்ரூவராக மாறியது தன்னை காத்துக் கொள்ளத்தானே ஒழிய! மனம் மாறிய செயல் அல்ல. இதுதான் மாய்மாலம். நேருக்கு நேராக பேசலாம் -பொட்டையனைப்போல ஒளியாதே என்று சபையில் வாலிபப் பெண்பிள்ளைகள் முகம் சுழிக்க பேசுவதால் இவர் உண்மையுள்ள ஊழியரல்ல என்று தெளிவாக விளங்குகிறது. இப்படிப்பட்ட இரட்டை வேடத்திலிருந்து இவர் தன்னை திருத்திக்கொண்டால் அவருக்கு இருக்கும் அற்புதமான ஊழிய தாலந்துக்கும் ஏற்ற ஆசீர்வாதத்தை கர்த்தர் அருளுவார். கர்த்தர் அவரையும்,அவரின் கடந்தகால குடும்ப வாழ்க்கையையும் மன்னித்து, அவரை அற்புதமான கன்வென்ஷன் பிரசங்கியாககூட கர்த்தர் அவரை உபயோகிக்க காத்திருக்கிறார்.

ஏற்கனவே நம் CSIயின் நிலை மோசமாகிக்கொண்டுவருவதை நாம் அறிவோம். முன்பெல்லாம் ஏதாவது ஒரு டையோசிஸ்ஸில் இப்படிப்பட்ட பிரச்சனைகள் அங்கொன்றும் இங்கென்றுமாக நடப்பதை கேள்விப்பட்டோம்.

ஆனால் Rt.Rev.வில்லியம் மோசஸ் மாடரேட்டராக பதவி ஏற்ற சில வருடங்களில் தொடங்கிய பிரச்சனைகளும், பண ஊழல்களும் பிஷப்பை விலைக்கு வாங்கும் கேவல வியாபாரமும்CSI டையோசிஸ்ஸில் தொடர்ந்து வளர ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது. ஒன்று, இரண்டு டையோசிஸ் தவிர அனைத்து டையோசிஸ்களிலும்ஊழல்கள் பெருக ஆரம்பித்து Most.Rt.Rev.சுகந்தர் காலத்தில் பணஊழல் உச்சக்கட்டத்தை அடைந்து பல டையோசிஸ்களில்பிஷப்மார்கள் விலை பேசப்பட்டார்கள். இந்த வெட்ககேடு இப்போதும் வளர்ந்துக்கொண்டே வருகிறது. இவைகளைக்கண்டும் அறிந்தும் ஜெபிக்காமலோ வாசகர்களுக்கு அறிவிக்காமலோ, வேதனைப்படாமலோ இருப்பது எப்படி? தினசரி பத்திரிக்கைகளிளெல்லாம் வாரம் தவறாமல் பிஷப்மார்களைப்பற்றியும், மாடரேட்டர்களைப்பற்றியும் செய்திகள் செய்திதாள்களிலும்,TV நிகழ்ச்சிகளிலும் புறமதத்தினர் வாசித்து, கண்டு கேலி செய்யவதை நாம் நேரில் கண்ட பின்னும்கிறிஸ்தவ மீடியாக்கள், பத்திரிக்கைள் மூலமாக சபை மக்களுக்கு இவைகளை வெளியரங்கமாக அறிவித்து ஜெபிக்க கேட்டுக்கொள்வதில் தவறு என்ன? நான் எழுதுவதைக்குறித்து கோபப்படுவதில் அர்த்தம் இல்லை!

ஒருவேளை என்னை CSIயிலிருந்து முழுவதுமாக நீக்கினாலும் என் ஆண்டவர் என்னை உயிரோடு வைக்கும்வரை, என்னை எழுத அனுமதிக்கும்வரை, என் கையில் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட எச்சரிக்கும் பணியும், அறிவிக்கும் பணியும் நிச்சயம் தொடரும்.

CSI சபை குருமார்கள் கவனிக்கவும்:

குருமார் அதிகாரங்களுக்கு கீழ்அடங்கி இருக்க வேண்டியவர் (ரோ 13:1-5, தீத்து 1ம் அதிகாரம்) ஒருவேளை எந்த டையோசிஸ்லாவது பிஷப்மார் அவர்கள் ஊழலில் சம்பந்தப்படாதவரானாலும் அவர் திருமண்டலத்தில் பண ஊழல் நடக்காது இருந்தாலும், தன்னைப்போன்ற பிஷப் பதவியில் உள்ள மற்ற பிஷப்மார்கள் என் ஜாமக்காரன் பத்திரிக்கையில் தாக்கப்படும்போது நிச்சயம் அவர்கள் மனது பாதிக்கும். அதன் காரணமாககூட சில பிஷப்மார் என்னைப் போன்றவரை ஒதுக்க நினைப்பார்கள்.அப்படிப்பட்ட எண்ணங்களைக்கொண்ட பிஷப்பின்கீழ் குருவானவராக நீங்கள் வேலை செய்தால் அவர் எண்ணத்தைப் புரிந்துக்கொண்டு என்னை போன்றவர்களை சபை கன்வென்ஷகளில் உபயோகிக்காமல் இருப்பது உங்கள் பதவிக்கு நல்லது. உங்கள் நன்மைக்காகவும் என்னால் நீங்கள் யாரும் பாதிக்கப்படகூடாது என்பதற்காகவும் இதை எழுதுகிறேன். என்மேல் பரிதாபம் கொள்ளவேண்டாம்.

சபை ஒழுங்குப்பற்றியும் அதிகாரங்களுக்கு கீழ் அடங்கி இருப்பதைக்குறித்தும் பிரசங்கிக்கும் நானே அந்த சட்டத்தை மீறக்கூடாது.(ரோம 13:1-5, தீத்து முதல் அதிகாரம்).

நான் எழுதுவதும் அறிவிப்பதும் யாரையும் அவமானப்படுத்த அல்ல.

யார் மேலும் எனக்கு பகையோ தனிப்பட்டமுறையில் வெறுப்போ கிடையாது.

எந்த பிஷப்மார்களும், எந்த மாடரேட்டர் பதவியில் உள்ளவர்களாலும் என் ஊழியத்துக்கு பாதிப்பு இல்லை. ஒருவேளை அவர்கள் என்னை CSIயிலிருந்து நீக்கினாலும் என் ஊழியம் நிச்சயம் பாதிக்கப்படாது. எனக்கும் வயது 70ஐ தொட்டுவிட்டது. என்னுடைய ஆயுளும் சுருங்கிக்கொண்டு வருகிறது. 1964ம் வருடம் ஊழியத்தை தொடங்கின நான் இப்போதும் அன்றைய பெலன் சற்றும் குறையாமல் கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் வாலிபனாக எல்லா நாளும் கர்த்தருக்கென்று ஓடிக்கொண்டேயிருக்கிறேன்.எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் ஒரு முடிவு உண்டு என்று வேதம் கூறுகிறது. அந்த முடிவு எனக்கும் வரும். எனக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட வழியில் நான் நடந்துகொண்டல்ல ஓடிக்கொண்டேயிருப்பேன்.

என்னை புரிந்துக்கொண்ட விசுவாசிகள் CSI, லூத்தரன், மார்தோமா சபை குருமார்கள்,பிஷப்மார்கள், பெந்தோகோஸ்தே சபைபாஸ்டர்கள், பிரதரன்சபை இப்படி ஏராளமானவர்கள் எனக்காக ஜெபிக்கிறார்கள். நான் அவர்களுக்காக ஜெபிக்கிறேன். எனக்காக தவறாமல் ஜெபிக்கும்பிஷப்மார் உண்டு, பெந்தேகோஸ்தே பாஸ்டர்கள் உண்டு, குருமார்கள் உண்டு. இவர்கள் எல்லாருடைய ஜெபங்களும் என் தனிப்பட்ட ஜெபமும் எனக்கும், என் ஊழியத்துக்கும், குடும்பத்துக்கும் அரணாகவும் பின்துணையாகவும் இருக்கிறது. இதற்கும் மேலாக என் இயேசு எப்போதும் என்னோடும், எனக்குள்ளும் இருப்பதை ஒவ்வொரு நொடியும் உணருகிறேன். அதுபோதும் எனக்கு. கர்த்தருக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம்.

As many as 82 presbyters from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Salem and Erode districts took part in a sit-in protest inside the CSI diocese office at Race Course in Coimbatore on Tuesday to demand the removal of Bishop D. Manickam Dorai.

Led by former CSI diocese secretary S. Jayaseelan and former treasurer J.D.C.

Sekar, the presbyters asked the synod moderator to take action and to recover money, material and documents allegedly appropriated by Mr Dorai and his family and others from the diocese office.

They warned the synod moderator that if no action is taken within a week, they would be forced to continue their sit-in protest indefinitely. They also insisted that the moderator have Mr Dorai vacated from the Bishop’s House inside the diocese. The CSI diocese was recently in the limelight after CB-CID sleuths registered a case against Mr Dorai and 30 others in connection with a complaint on misappropriation of diocese funds to the tune of `3 crore.

As a result of the protest, the synod moderator formed a fact finding team with a retired high court judge, a retired DGP and an auditor to probe the allegations against the bishop. Meanwhile, the synod moderator has asked the bishop to go on a sabbatical.

BISHOP AND HIS MEN PLEDGE SUPPORT TO BOTH MK, JAYA

IT is evident that the Madurai-Ramnad Diocese has an axe to grind as the Bishop and his men have gone out of their way to meet both Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha pledging their unequivocal support to both the rival parties.

It is ironical that CSI Bishop for Madurai-Ramnad Christopher Asir paid a visit to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi who arrived here on Wednesday, while just two days ago his men (about 25 church Pastors under his ‘control’) and his son Joel Sam Asir (a CSI school teacher – how can the school allow him to join a political party?), met J.Jayalalitha pledging their support to AIADMK (in that meeting bishop’s son Joel told the AIADMK chief J.J that he along with 3000 youths belonging to youth christian movement are joining her party).

According to the reports published in the vernacular dailies, the Diocesan office-bearers and Joel visited Jayalalitha and expressed their solidarity with the leader.

According to sources, on Tuesday, there was a diocese meeting which was presided by its youth wing president Joel Sam Asir (bishop’s son) . In the meeting, it was debated that though they had supported the DMK regime for the last 7 years not much was done (to them by the DMK government), including resolving the American College issue in their favour.

As Jayalalitha had promised to look into their demands, they have decided to work for the AIADMK in all the 16 districts coming under Madurai-Ramnad diocese.

AMERICAN COLLEGE IMBROGLIO

LADIES HOSTEL SUPERINTENDENTS ACCUSED OF ABUSING STUDENTS

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE MADURAI, MARCH 11.

COMPLAINTS regarding use of abusive words by the ladies hostel superintendents who were recently appointed by CSI Bishop's candidate (acting) Principal R. Mohan has surfaced in the American College.

A complaint in this regard had been forwarded to City Police Commissioner A. Pari. A few students had presented their cases to People's Watch, a non-government organisation. Based on which, afact finding team was sent to the college to take stock of the situation.

Ladies hostel superintendents Punitha and Anzeline were reported to have been using abusive words doubting the integrity of the girls.

As some classes are being taken under the trees, these girls had been attending classes with other boys in their class.

In this connection, these two staff (Punitha and Anzeline) posed several questions including:

"While sitting under the trees, why do you sit always sit close to boy student?
Do you want to nudge them and fall over the boys?
Would you like to admit boys in the Women's hostel?
Or would you prefer to join boys in their hostels?
Are you interested in a sexual relationship with boys?
Can we arrange separate rooms for you boys and girls?"

(Punitha and Anzeline were obviously been misguided by Mohan and his team, instigating them to torture girl students. The entire Bishop's team administering the college now were very much infuriated by the recent 'relay fasting' by the students).

This is what the students had to face everyday to stay in their hostel, according to the fact finding team.

The team had also complained of poor quantity and quality of the food served for students staying in the hostels.

Outsiders in the college who are in support of the acting Principal Mohan (the rowdy elements) are yet to be ousted by the Police.

Video of the girl students taking part in the (relay fasting) strike was recorded by a staff (recently appointed by Mohan) of Bishop side and the same had been utilised to identify the students. Individual calls were made to the homes of the students and the parents (& guardians) were misrepresented the facts and were threatened of ousting their wards out of the hostel.

Henry Tiphagne, Executive Director, People's Watch, said that the complaint had been forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Madurai on Thursday.

The same will be forwarded to State Women Commission, State Human Rights Commission on Saturday.

Early intervention of the State would save the education of a couple of thousand students studying in this college, he added.

அமெரிக்கன் கல்லூரியில் வருவாயைக்கருத்தில் கொண்டு சினிமா படப்பிடிப்பை நடத்த அனுமதி அளித்திருப்பதாகப் புகார் எழுந்துள்ளது. மேலும் தங்களுக்கு தகுந்த பாதுகாப்பளிக்கக்கோரி மாணவர்கள் ஆட்சியர் உ.சகாயத்திடம் திங்கட்கிழமை மனு அளித்துள்ளனர்.

மதுரை அமெரிக்கன் கல்லூரியில் நிர்வாக ரீதியாக பிரச்னை எழுந்துள்ளது. முதல்வர் நியமனம் தொடர்பாக விதிமுறையை மீறி பேராயர் தரப்பினர் செயல்படுவதாகக் குற்றச்சாட்டு எழுந்துள்ளது(என்பது அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்ததே!).

இந்நிலையில், பெரும்பாலான கல்லூரி மாணவர்களுக்கு மரத்தடியில் பாடம் நடத்தப்படுவதாகவும், இதுகுறித்து அரசு உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவேண்டும் எனவும் கோரிகை எழுந்துள்ளது.

இந்த நிலையில், திங்கட்கிழமை காலையில் அமெரிக்கன் கல்லூரி மாணவர் சங்கம் சார்பில் மாணவப்பிரதிநிதிகள் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியரிடம் மனு அளித்துள்ளனர்.

அதில், கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் மீது தொடரப்பட்ட பொய் வழக்குகளை வாபஸ் பெறவேண்டும்.

வகுப்பறைகள் திறக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

மாணவர்களுக்கான விடுதி உணவகம் திறக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

கடந்த பருவத்தேர்வு மதிபெண் பட்டியல் வழங்கவேண்டும்.

மரத்தடியில் பயிலும் மாணவர்களுக்கு போதிய பாதுகாப்பு அளிக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

கல்லூரிக்குள் தற்போது பிரச்னை எழுந்துள்ள நிலையில், தமிழ் சினிமா படப்பிடிப்பை நடத்தவும், அதன் மூலம் வருவாய் பெறவும் ஒரு (ஆசீர்) தரப்பினர் செயல்பட்டு வருவதாக மாணவர்கள் புகார் கூறுகின்றனர்.

மரத்தடி வகுப்புகள் நடைபெற்று வரும் நிலையில், அதற்கு இடையூறு செய்யும் வகையில் படப்பிடிப்புக்கு அனுமதி அளிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும் மாணவர் தரப்பு கூறுகிறது.

மேலும், ஆட்சியரிடம் மனுஅளிக்க வந்த மாணவர்கள் சிலருக்கு செல்போன் மூலம் மிரட்டல்விடுவதாகவும் கூறப்பட்டது. [இவ்வாறு மாணவர்களையும், பெற்றோர்களையும் மிரட்டுவது பேராயர் கும்பலுக்கு வாடிக்கையாகிவிட்டது].

BISHOP ASIR’S DAY OUT AND THE STEAM BATH

Yesterday the 6^th of April was Bishop Asir’sday out in Madurai. He made big news too. He met Chief Minister Karunanidhi who was campaigning at Madurai and declared his support to DMK. He also urged all the CSI Christians to vote for DMK.

This was certainly a surprise. Only two days ago he made all eye-brows raise. He sent a group of cassock clad CSI monks to perform acrobatics before Jayalalitha in an attempt to lay a new foundation to his brand of minority politics. All of us know that Asir used to unabashedly swear in the name of ThaliavarKalaingar, Thazhapathi Stalin and Annan Alagiri. Many appreciated Asir’s overture to Jaya as a well calculated move riding the anti-incumbency wave.

When Asir went on his reverse gear and reached Karunanidhi, a few confused Christian souls called me and wondered whetherAmerican College was part of the deal for Asir to come back to DMK. Another one sounded so awestruck and believed the story that the Big Man of Madurai himself had to go to Dental College to coax for hours the arch priest to come back. I will tell you later what really happened. Now, let us try to fix Asir in place.

In Madurai, especially in the Christian circle, people read too much into everything the Bishop does. They have long forgotten their good smiles and exuberant jokes. Even an involuntary splitting-of-wind due to a bad stomach, is heard only as a mighty roar of this Lion of Madurai Ramnad Diocese. It is all the haunting fear now, which makes the Christian crowd misperceive.

Unlike other charitable Bishops of CSI, Asir with impunity has built a Christian samastan of his own. With majority of Christians dependent on church-based employment, many thousand crores worth of estate, hundreds of educational and other service institutions with vast social and economic tentacles and millions of rupees in monthly income, it is easy for any unscrupulous bishop to turn the church into a fiefdom. And he can become its tin-top dictator. It is a painful paradox that with six decades of freedom in India and constitutional guarantee of Minority Rights, the CSI church is returning to its medievalism.

Once a Chairman of State Minorities Commission told me with a sardonic tinge “Minorities mean people in different kinds of robes and stoles and not ye the faithful”. While the Minority Rights have only empowered the leaders, they have enslaved the ordinary citizen-Christians. The political parties have further alienated the ordinary citizen-Christians by going behind these unscrupulous leaders of the Church for the sake of short term gains and money.

Today, a Bishop of CSI Diocese can rule his constituency like a medieval bigot with three elements: 1. money 2.muscle 3.right alliance with powerful politicians. Many police complaints and court cases have provided indications of how Asir makes money. Less said the better about the corruption involved in appointments and transfers. His muscle power has acquired a new patent and brand name after the dastardly acts he orchestrated in American College.

Now, the political alliance. Asir’s political zigzag infact is a costly mistake for him. The whole world knows how he was patronized by DMK leaders throughout his career, of course for a price. But the idea of riding the Jaya wave came primarily due to his larger than life-size political image which he started believing in. Thanks to sycophants, the afraid and the demoralized who for their own psychological reasons created the monster image of Christopher Asir. This monster image of Asir, then acquired a life of its own and started walking freely, of course creating fear over the city. Ironically Bishop Asir himself started believing in this MONSTER OF HIMSELF which was not he. He unfortunately forgot himself. (Some analysts say that it is the usual syndrome of the final hour of any dictator). No wonder he challenged the mighty leaders of DMK.

Now let me tell you what happened on Asir’s day out. The peeved DMK leadership only arranged for a steam-bath for Asir. He in no time presented himself before Karunanidhi, ofcourse properly escorted. What an embarrassment to dear athan Ezra Sargunam who cradled this country cousin in the DMK circle.

Before I close, I must also express my sympathies to both DMK and AIADMK for wasting their energy on Asir. As we all know, Asir commands no Christian vote. Not even his son’s. Son says he has joined AIADMK and is busy procuring the remaining 2900 of the 3000 youth he failed to bring before Jaya, the other day. Reliable sources say that he was already given an oil-bath by the DMK youth wing and is presently absconding.

CSI PASTORS AND BRIYANI PACKETS

Bishop Christopher Asir so far, has been only in the habit of selling or leasing out church property with an eye on personal gains. This time, he has gone one step farther. Without telling anybody, he has pledged CSI votes of Madurai-Ramnad diocese to Jaya, for a price. In promising these votes, he has played the old fashioned satrap, treating the subscribing members of the church to be poor tenants, living on his grandfather’s estate.

We hear that on 4^th April, 30 odd cassock clad junior monks of CSI, led by senior padres Rev. Dassaiyan, Rev. Richard, Rev. Devadoss, Rev. Yaukobu et.al., performed a special monk-e-trick in Sangam Hotel, before the venerable Amma. They sang the chorus “all the CSI votes of our dioceses are for you, dear Amma. Amma… Amma the victorious one”. The circus as usual was orchestrated by Asir’s all-weather man Fernandes Ratnaraja, AIADMK cardholding diocesan treasurer, Mahendran and shining-star son, Joel. Amma was earlier informed that Joel would join AIADMK with 3000 Christian youth. By 11:30 A.M. Joel could procure only a hundred, and 2900 were yet to arrive.

Amma was unusually polite, this time. She crisply thanked the monks for their pledging of votes and the very Christian prayer Rev. K.K.Devadoss offered. It was two hours wait in all, and 5 miniutes performance. Then the motley band marched to Bishop’s residence. Each member was given Rs.500. They also collected their briyani packets. As told, they fanned into the Christian crowd and started spreading the rumour “Ayya has made arrangements with Amma and he will get back American College”. This has upset a few gullible.

This time, I am not angry about ayya, the Bishop. Infact, my sympathies are with him for his political naiveté. I shall deal this separately. But the amusement I have been having all along about the monks and their usual monk-e-tricks has turned into anger. These are people who call themselves as ministers of congregations and shepherds of the Christian folk. The Bishop has after all converted them into small time minions. At his behest, they tell lies, spread rumours, lead smear campaigns, spread communal and caste hatred, assemble in odd public places for rallies and if necessary for rioting and file false affidavits in police stations and law courts. Even though they do not publicly fall postrate before powerful politicians, however indulge in such theatricals as any one would caricature them as simple minded buffoons. Now, a cassock is important for them in public. If the Bishop orders that they should come in cassock, then it means that they have some work in the police station or the court. God bless!

Many of the pastors when confronted, confess privately that they know what they do, are wrong. They all say that they cannot stand up and speak to the Bishop. They willfully do all these personally disgraceful things only in order to survive. Constant intimidation by the Bishop and his men has psychologically and spiritually ruined them. A regular church goer once commented, “their souls are already petrified and their lives are sleepwalks in the corridors of the church. They are not certainly aware of what they are doing”. We always take pity on them and even tolerate them as being helpless men of God. This tolerance and goodwill of the congregation, the pastors have grossly misunderstood. They are becoming increasingly mischievous. The moment they see the Bishop, their egos suffer certain flatulence that they instantly take differentavatars.

Going over to Sangam Hotel to meet Amma and pledge the congregations’ votes without their consent, was too much. It amounts to cheating. The irony is that these sleep-walkers of the church while they beg for permission from the Bishop to even scratch their itching bottom, had no hesitation in appropriating the democratic rights of others. Before entering into the electoral politics, these monks must unite and apply their mind to fight the tyranny of the Bishop and get back their freedom, dignity and independence worthy of ministers. Why do they commit petty crimes violating the poll law and model code of conduct? They for instance do not realize that by taking Rs.500/- and a briyani packet, have acted as paid agents for the candidates contesting elections. Whose money the Bishop distributed to the pastors and for what? (One pastor afterall confessed that the money came from none other than O.Paneerselvam). It is not too late for some one to send a complaint to the officials. Pastors beware!

JANUS-FACED ACT OF THE BISHOP COMES TO LIME-LIGHT

The Madurai-Ramnad CSI Bishop A. Christopher Asir, has time and again proved himself to be a totally unscrupulous element. Be it within or outside the church, he does things in an irreverent way. He uses the Church Pastors as bonded laborers. Whoever it is, after getting all the help from them, he crushes them. Recently, he tried his hand with politicians and burnt his fingers for his dubious acts within a short span of time.

On the first day on 5-4-2011 he sent about 25 Pastors headed by his son to meet Ms. Jayalalitha (AIADMK Chief) and expressed their unified support to AIADMK in the forth-coming assembly elections. By this act, Bishop has ditched DMK, with whom he was chummy-chumy for a long period of time. Enjoyed the favoritism shown by them. He even misused their name /got support from a few, during his coup d'étatattempts at American College since 2008.

On the very next day, on 6-4-2011, when the DMK Chief was in Madurai, the ailing Bishop himself 'took pains' to meet the DMK Chief to pledge the votes of the Madurai-Ramnad CSI Christians, besides rendering his own support.
Now the father supports DMK and his son in the name of 'youth Christian movement' supports AIADMK. A nice strategy to protect their wealth and acquire 'American College wealth'.

HOSTELERS SEEK COLLECTOR'S HELP

Representatives of American College Students Federation met District Collector U. Sagayam here on Monday and sought his help to keep the hostels functioning in the college.
The students said that the present management, supported by CSI Madurai-Ramnad Diocese Bishop A. Christopher Asir had rented the college for a film shooting. The film was said to have scheduled to be shot from Tuesday [10-05-2011], due to which the management has announced that the hostels in the college will be closed. This will affect the students who are attending classes 'Under-the Trees'. Since these classes are being conducted by eminent professors, most of the students are using hostel facilities to attend classes.
If the hostels are closed, the students are left with only two options, either to leave for their home towns without attending classes or rent rooms [not possible for poor students and not safe for women students].
  The Collector immediately called on the Joint Directorate of Collegiate Education and instructed him to ask the college management to STOP renting the college for film shooting until the classes are over.
Sagayam also assured the students that he would take efforts to solve the ongoing problems in the college. The students had presented a memorandum pressing a charter of demands, including the appointment of a special officer to run the college till the legal disputes pending with the court are cleared.
The students also prayed that all the false cases hosted against them should be withdrawn. They sought the collector to take measures to open the class rooms and laboratories.
  They have also demanded that all the hostels and messes should continue their functioning until the examinations are over in order to help the outstation students. This demand was immediately accepted by the Collector who took measures to run the hostels.
  The students urged the Collector to expedite the process of issuing mark statements for students appeared for the previous semester. The students explained that the campus was not safe for the students who were learning 'Under-the Trees' and staying in the college. They demanded that their safety was ensured by stepping up the security.
Earlier over 200 students thronged the Collectorate and sought permission to meet the Collector to explain their plight to him. The police involved in the security clarified that they cannot let everyone to meet the Collector and suggested that they select representatives. Students Nagoor Kani, Princy, Karthik, Amalya, Nandhina, Appas, Tamil, Rajan and Janaki met the Collector [Hats off to them].

VHP to file PIL against Government

REGARDING THE AMERICAN COLLEGE ISSUE

   Vishwa Hindu Parishad has threatened to file a Public Interest Litigation against the Tamil Nadu Government, Bishop of Madurai-Ramnad Diocese - Christopher Asir, Madurai Kamaraj University and Election Commission for their inaction over the American College issue.
   In a press conference Chinmaya Somasundaram, district president, VHP, charged that the college administration run by Bishop's aides were conducting exams in an arbitrary manner while a high level committee appointed by the Government is still investigating the dispute.
   According to media reports, 600 students out of 4,000 students have appeared for the examinations. On what basis are the exams being conducted? Was it according to the guidelines set by the University Grants Commission or Bishop's will? the VHP questioned.
       While the faculty (morethan 70%) supporting Anbudurai (the legal heir of the college adminstration) are still agitating without taking classes (because Bishop has planted rowdies inside the campus, recall the March 14th violence in the college campus), he charged that the examinations held in the college was against the university examinations guidelines since examinations were held without proper attendance and internal exams.
   The VHP also pointed out the case of Visual Communication where90 students were studying but only one appeared for the exams! that too the student paid the (semester) fees only on April 23 to sit for the exams on April 25! When other students enquired about this, the college administartion had assured that another set of exams would be held in the month of June.
   VHP wondered how the university could allow a principal, who is yet to be recognized by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, to conduct examinations. It also raised questions on who was authorized person to sign the mark statements.
  LOT OF CRIMINAL CASES WERE PENDING AGAINST BISHOP CHRISTOPHER ASIR who was using minorities rights as his authoritarian licence, Chinmaya Somasundaram charged.
   The government should not be silent as the college which was known as Oxford of Madurai city has been taken for a ride and lives of 4,000 students have been affected. If the government is not ready to accept the term as 'Caretaker Government' why has it not done anything to save the lives of students, VHP questioned.
  During the election campaign, the Bishop met the ruling party leader while his son met the opposition party leader to seek their support (i.e to be favourable to them in the American College matters). In that case, where can the parents of these 4,000 students seek support?
   Flaying the Election Commission which has suggested various measures in the name of model code of conduct, it said that the commission was silent though the lives of these students were affected in the name of model code of conduct.
  Hence, as the government machinery has failed to act in the college dispute, the VHP will file a PIL, against the government, Election Commission, MKU and Bishop, the press statement observed.

HOW CAN AN ACTING PRINCIPAL (WITHOUT PROPER APPROVAL BY THE GOVERNMENT) SIGN MoU?

VHP wondered how an acting principal who was NOT authorized either by the DCE or College Governing Council represent the college and sign a Memorandum of Understanding with an agency. It may be recalled that there were news reports saying that the college had signed an MoU eith AMD Technologies!
   The VHP pointed out that a person who has NOT been authorized by the government can in NO WAY SIGN an MoU on behalf of the College.

நம் இந்திய அரசாங்கத்தில் நடந்த அந்த மெகா ஊழலை சுட்டிக்காட்டியதின் நோக்கம். நம் CSIகிறிஸ்தவர்கள் சபையிலும் இந்த மெகா ஊழல் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு TVயிலும், செய்திதாள்களிலும் வெளிவந்து சாட்சிகெட்டுப்போய் நாம் வணங்குகிற தெய்வத்துக்கு அவமானத்தை சபையை ஆளுகிற தலைவர்களே உண்டுபண்ணிவிட்டார்கள்! CSI சபை அங்கத்தினர்களான கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் இதற்கு என்ன நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்போகிறோம்? இந்தியாவிலேயே தலைமகனாகிய பிரதமர் அவர்கள் கை சுத்தம் உள்ளவர் என்பதை யாரும் மறுக்கவேயில்லை. ஆனால் இவர் ஆட்சியில் நடந்த கொள்ளைகளுக்கு, நடந்த ஊழலுக்கு இவரே தலைமை வகித்தவராக ஆகிப்போனாரே!

ஆனால் நம் CSI கிறிஸ்தவ சபைகளில் நடந்த ஊழலில் சற்று வித்தியாசம் என்னவென்றால்!தலைமை பீடத்தில் உள்ளவர்களே கோடிகளை திருடியிருக்கிறார்கள். CSI கிறிஸ்தவ தலைமையின் கை பல டையோசிஸ்களில் சுத்தமில்லை. இவர்களின் உடலும், மனமும் சுத்தமில்லை. சில தலைவர்களின் சாட்சி கெட்டுபோய்விட்டது. அதில் ஒருவர் தன் மனைவிக்கு பிறக்காத 18 வயது பெண்ணுக்கு, இரகசிய தகப்பனாக இருக்கிறார். இவர் கோடிகளை கொள்ளையடித்து தன் பெயரிலும், தன் மனைவி பெயரிலும் அந்த பணத்தை பேங்க்கில் சேர்த்து வைத்திருக்கிறார் என்று ஆதாரத்துடன் சிலரால் குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளார். பரிசுத்த சபையின் தலைமை ஸ்தானத்தில் இப்படிப்பட்டவர் அமர்ந்து அனைத்து சபைகளையும் பரிசுத்தத்துக்கு நேராக நடத்தி செல்வது எப்படி? CSI சபைகளில் இப்படிப்பட்ட பாவம் நடப்பது முதல் முறையல்ல, இது புதிதும் அல்ல, இத்தகைய பாவம் கடந்த 20 ஆண்டுகளாகவே சில இடங்களில் தொடருகிறதே! எங்கு பார்த்தாலும் பரிசுத்த குலைச்சல் பெருகிவிட்டது. CSIசபைமக்களால் இதற்கு ஒரு முடிவுகட்ட முடியவில்லை. நீதிமன்றத்தாலும் முடிவுகட்ட முடியவில்லை. இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வருகையோ சமீபித்துவிட்டது.

CSI சபையில் உள்ளவர்கள் மணவாளனை எதிர்க்கொள்ளமுடியாதா? மணவாளனோடு இணைந்து மேகங்களில் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படமுடியாதா? நாமும் நம் சந்ததியும் கைவிடப்படுவோமா? CSIயின் நிலைமை மோசமாகிறதே! இரவில் குடிக்கும் ஆயர்கள் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகமாகிவிட்டதே! CSIசபையினர் இந்த நிலையை சரியாக்க என்ன செய்தார்கள்? CSI சினாட் 2011 கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதம் அவசரமாக கூடப்போகிறது என்பதை நான் அறிந்து இந்த சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்துக்கொள்ளும் மெம்பர்கள் மூலமாவது, CSI சினாடிலும், டையோசிஸ்களிலும் நடக்கும் பணமோசடிகள், ஆலய நில திருட்டு இவைகளைக் குறித்து இந்த CSI சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் பேசி முடிவெடுக்க சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் கடிதம் எழுதி கேட்டுக்கொண்டேன். இந்த கூட்டத்திலாவது வழி பிறக்காதா! என்ற எண்ணத்தில் சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் கடிதம் எழுதி விவரம் அறிவித்தேன். தமிழிலும் - மலையாளத்திலும் கடிதத்தை மொழி பெயர்த்து ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் தனித்தனியாக கடிதம் அனுப்பினேன். சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் அனைவரின் விலாசங்களும் எனக்கு கிடைக்கவில்லை. சுமார் 200 பேர்களுக்குமட்டும் கடிதம் எழுதி அந்த கடித விவரத்தை மற்றவர்களுக்கும் அறிவிக்க கேட்டுக்கொண்டேன்.

2011 பிப்ரவரி மாதம் 19ம் தேதி சினாட் கூட்டம் நடந்தது. கூட்டம் நடைபெறும்முன் சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் அத்தனை பேர்களின் கைகளிலும் இக்கடிதம் போய்சேரவேண்டும் என்பதற்காக இடைவெளி இல்லாத என் ஊழிய நெருக்கங்களின் இடையேயும் இந்த கடிதத்தை தயாரித்து ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் தனி தபாலில் என் கடிதத்தை அனுப்பினேன்.

என் தகப்பனார் CSI சபையின் செயலாளராக பலவருடம் தொடர்ந்து ஊழியம் செய்தவராவார். நானும்CSI சபையின் திருவிருந்தில் தொடர்ந்து பங்குக்கொள்ளும் உறுப்பினனும், அங்கத்தினனும் ஆவேன். அதுமட்டுமல்ல, நம் CSIயைக்குறித்து மிகுந்த பாரமுள்ளவனும், CSIயின் உயிர்மீட்சிக்காக, முன்னேற்றத்துக்காக பல வருடங்களாக உழைப்பவனும், பாடுபடுபவனும், தினசரி ஜெபிப்பவனும் ஆவேன். அதோடு நம் CSI சபைகளில் உயிர்மீட்சி உண்டாக கன்வென்ஷன் கூட்டங்களில் பிரசங்கிக்க அனைத்து CSI திருமண்டலங்களில் CSI சபைகளிலுள்ள குருமார்களால், சபையினரால் அழைக்கப்பட்டு தொடர்ந்து பிரசங்கித்து கொண்டிருப்பவனும் ஆவேன்.

ஜாமக்காரன் என்ற பெயரில் நான் நடத்தும் பத்திரிக்கை டெல்லி மத்திய அரசாங்க பதிவுபெற்ற பத்திரிக்கையாகும், தமிழ்நாட்டு அரசாங்கத்திலும் பதிவுபெற்ற பத்திரிக்கையாகும். அனைத்து கிறிஸ்தவ சபைகளை மனதில்கொண்டு, குறிப்பாக நம் CSI சபை மக்களின் ஆவிக்குரிய வளர்ச்சிக்காகவும், வசனத்துக்கு விரோதமாக உள்ள கள்ள உபதேசத்தை வசன அடிப்படையில் சுட்டிக்காட்டியும்,எச்சரித்தும் சபைகளிலுள்ள ஊழல்களை வாசகர்கள் மூலமாக அறிந்து அவைகளை ஜாமக்காரன் வாசகர்களுக்கு பத்திரிக்கை மூலமாக வெளிப்படுத்தி எச்சரிக்கவும், அறிவிக்கவும் செய்து வாசகர்களை அதற்காக ஜெபிக்க கேட்டுக்கொள்ளவும் அதன்மூலம் அவர்களுக்குள் விழிப்புணர்வு உண்டாகவும் இந்த பத்திரிக்கை ஊழியத்தை தேவதயவால் கடந்த 40 வருடங்களாக நடத்தி வருகிறேன்.

அதன் அடிப்படையில் நம் CSI சபைகளிலும், திருமண்டலத்திலும், CSIயின் தலைமை பீடமாகிய CSIசினாட்டிலும் கடந்த காலங்களில் நடந்த பண ஊழல்கள், குறிப்பாக CSI சினாட்டில் நடந்த சுனாமிபணக்கொள்ளைகளைக்குறித்தும், அதில் சம்பந்தபட்டவர்களைக்குறித்தும் சில பிஷப்மார்களின் பண ஊழல்கள், சாட்சியில்லா வாழ்க்கைகள் யாவையும் என் வாசகர்களுக்கு அறிவித்து ஜெபிக்க கேட்டுக்கொண்டேன். பல எதிர்ப்புகள் பயமுறுத்தல்களுக்கிடையே இந்த ஊழியத்தை தொடர்ந்து நிறைவேற்றிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறேன். அதன் காரணமாக பெரும்பாலான பிஷப்மார்களின் வெறுப்புக்குள்ளாகியிருக்கிறேன்.

CSI சினாடுக்கும், சில CSI திருமண்டலங்களுக்கும் இந்தியாவிலும், வெளிநாட்டிலும் உண்டான அவமானங்கள் ஏராளம் ஏராளம். சினாட் அங்கத்தினர்களாகிய நீங்கள் யாவரும் இவ்விவரங்களை அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள்.

பிஷப்மார்களுக்கும், மாடரேட்டருக்கும் உள்ள வானளாவிய அதிகாரங்கள் எடுத்துப் போடப்பட வேண்டும். இவர்களில் சிலர் நடத்திய பணக்கொள்ளைகள் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டும் அவர்கள் தண்டிக்கப்பட முடியவில்லை. சில பிஷப்மார்கள் மூலமாக சபை அங்கத்தினர்களுக்கு எதிராக நடக்கும் அநீதிகள், அநியாயங்களைக்கூட தட்டிக்கேட்கவோ, தடைச்செய்யவோ, குற்றம் செய்த பிஷப்மார்களை தண்டிக்கவோ இயலாதபடி இந்திய நீதிமன்றங்கள்கூட கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் சிறுபான்மை இனமக்கள் என்ற ஒரே காரணத்தால் தண்டனை கொடுக்க தயங்குகின்றதை கண்கூடாக காண்கிறோம். ஆகவே நம் CSIயின் எந்த பிரச்சனைகளும், நீதிமன்றத்துக்குபோகாமல் நம்மை நாமே நியாயம் தீர்க்கும் வகையில் சட்டவடிவமைக்க நீங்கள் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து இந்த சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் முடிவெடுங்கள்.

நடக்கபோகும் CSI சினாட் Amendments விவரங்களை நான் வாசித்தேன். இப்போதுள்ள CSIசட்டத்தில் உள்ள ஓட்டைகளை சீர்செய்ய புதிய திட்டங்கள் எதுவும் இந்த Amendmentsல் இல்லாதிருப்பதால் அனைத்து CSI சபைகளும், உலகமக்கள்முன், நம் நாட்டுமக்கள்முன் மறுபடியும் அவமானப்பட்டு, கர்த்தரின் நாமம் மேலும் தூஷிக்கப்படுமோ என்று கவலைப்படுகிறேன்.

இதை வாசிக்கும் CSI சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் அனைவரும் இதைக் கர்த்தர் கொடுக்கும் ஒரு எச்சரிப்பாக இந்த கடிதத்தை வாசித்து உணரவேண்டும். இப்போது உங்களுக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் இந்த கொஞ்சகால சினாட் மெம்பர் பதவி கர்த்தரால் அனுமதித்ததாகும் என்பதை நீங்கள் உணர வேண்டும். நீங்கள் வகிக்கும் சினாட் அங்கத்தினர் என்றப்பெயர் பதவி அல்ல அது ஊழியம் ஆகும். முழு CSIயையும் ஆவிக்குரிய விதத்தில் உயர வைக்கவும் உங்களால் முடியும், தரைமட்டும் தாழ்த்திப்போடவும் உங்களால் முடியும். கர்த்தர் உங்களிடம் நிச்சயம் கணக்கு கேட்பார், சும்மா கூட்டம் கூடி, பிரியாணி சாப்பிட்டு திரும்பும் உல்லாச பிரயாணம் அல்ல இது! என்பதை நீங்கள் உணரவேண்டும்.

உங்களை சினாட் மெம்பராக இந்த பீரியட்டில் கர்த்தர் அனுமதித்ததற்கு இக்கூட்டத்தில் இதுவரை என்ன செயலாற்றினீர்கள்? சினாட் எடுத்த தவறான தீர்மானங்களுக்கு கைதூக்கி, இயற்றப்படும்தவறான சட்டத்துக்கு நீங்கள் துணைப்போவீர்களேயானால் அல்லது தவறான தலைவர்களை அவர்களின் தவறான வாழ்க்கையை நீங்கள் அறிந்தும், மாடரேட்டர் பதவிக்கு, பிஷப் பதவிக்கு அவர்கள் தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட நீங்கள் துணைப்போனால், கர்த்தரின் தண்டனை நிச்சயம் உங்கள்மேல் வரும். ஆகவே சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்துக்கொள்ளும் முன்பதாக அவரவர்களுடைய சபையில் உள்ள ஆவிக்குரிய நல்லவர்களிடம் இவைகளை பகிர்ந்துக்கொண்டு சினாட்டில் பேசவேண்டிய விஷயத்தைக்குறித்து கலந்து ஆலோசித்து ஜெபத்தோடு சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் பகிர்ந்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். நம்CSIயில் காணப்படும் தவறுகளை சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் தட்டிக்கேட்க தைரியப்படுங்கள். தவறுகளைசுட்டிக்காட்டவும் தைரியப்படுங்கள். அதற்காகத்தான் சபைமக்கள் சார்பில், சபைகளின் பிரதிநிதியாக, சபை மக்களின் வாயாக CSI சபைகளின் சார்பில் நீங்கள் சினாட் கூட்டத்துக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளீர்கள் என்பதை மறக்கவேண்டாம். இதுவரை உங்கள் சார்பாக இதற்குமுன் நடந்த சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் என்ன பேசினீர்கள்? என்று யோசித்துப்பாருங்கள். அவைகளைக்குறித்து அறிய சபை மக்கள் எதிர்ப்பார்ப்பார்களே! சினாட்டுக்கு போகும்முன் உங்கள் சபை ஜனங்களுக்கும் நீங்கள் போகும் விவரம் அறிவிக்கவேண்டும். சினாட் கூட்டம் முடிந்தபிறகும் அங்கு நடந்த விவரத்தை சபைமக்களுக்கு அறிவிக்க வேண்டும் இது முக்கியம். காரணம், இதன்மூலம் சபைமக்கள் உங்களுக்காக ஜெபிக்கமுடியும். நம் சபையில் என்ன நடக்கிறது என்றே பெரும்பாலானவர்களுக்கு தெரிவதில்லை. அப்படியே சினாடில் என்ன நடக்கிறது? எதற்காக இந்த சினாட் கூட்டம்? என்றே அறியாத சபைமக்கள் எப்படி சினாட் அங்கத்தினருக்காக அவர்கள் எடுக்கும் தீர்மானங்களுக்காக ஜெபிக்கமுடியும்? பிஷப்புக்காக, மாடரேட்டருக்காக சபை மக்கள் ஜெபிக்கவேண்டுமானால் அங்குள்ள நிலவரங்களை குறித்து அறிந்தால்தானே முடியும். ஆகவே சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் போய்வந்த விவரங்களை சபையரிடம் அறிவிக்கவேண்டும்.

இந்திய பார்லிமெண்ட்டுக்குப்போன MPமார்களில் இதுவரை ஒரு கேள்வியும் கேட்காதவர் என்று ஒரு பட்டியல் சமீபத்தில் பத்திரிக்கையில் வெளிவந்தது. அதுபோல் உங்கள் பெயர் அப்படிப்பட்ட பட்டியலில் இடம்பெறாதபடி சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் நியாயமானதை பேசுங்கள். அனைத்து CSI சபைகளின் சொத்துக்கள் காப்பாற்றப்பட, மக்கள் கர்த்தருக்கென்றுபோடும் காணிக்கைகள், சில பிஷப்மார்களால்வேறு பல காரணங்கள் காட்டி கொள்ளையடிக்கப்படாமலிருக்கவும், தவறு செய்த பிஷப்மார்பதவிநீக்கம் செய்யப்படவும் அல்லது தண்டிக்கப்படவும் அதற்கான நல்ல சட்டம் இயற்ற, இந்த சினாட்கூட்டத்தை பயன்படுத்துங்கள். மறுபடியும் கூறுகிறேன். கர்த்தர் உங்களிடம் CSI சினாட்ப்பற்றி கணக்கு கேட்பார். சபை ஜனங்கள் அறியாமல் அல்லது சபை மக்கள் அனுமதிக்காமல் எந்த ஒரு பிஷப்பும், கமிட்டியும் சபையிலுள்ள நிலம், மரம் எதையும் விற்ககூடாது என்பதை சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் அறிவியுங்கள்.

நான் விசாரித்தவரை பெரும்பாலான CSI சினாட் மெம்பர்களுக்கு சினாடில் அங்கத்தினர் மொத்தம் எத்தனைப்பேர் என்பதே தெரியவில்லை. மற்ற சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் விலாசங்களும் இவர்களுக்கு தெரியவில்லை. ஆகவே 22 டையோசிஸ் CSI சபை அங்கத்தினர்களுக்கும், சினாட் மெம்பர்களின்விலாசங்கள் அறிவிக்கப்படவேண்டும் அல்லது பிரிண்ட் செய்து கொடுக்கப்படவேண்டும். CSI சினாட் வெளியிடும் மாதபத்திரிக்கையில் சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் எல்லாருடைய விலாசங்களும் வெளியிடப்பட வேண்டும். அப்போதுதான் சபை மக்கள் சினாட் மெம்பர் மூலமாக தங்கள் குறைகளை அறிவிக்கமுடியும். இந்த விவரத்தை சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் இந்தமுறை நீங்கள் அறிவியுங்கள். மேலும் இந்த கூட்டத்திலேயே உங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவர் கையிலும் சினாட் அங்கத்தினர் விலாசம் கிடைக்கும்படி சினாட்டில் விலாசங்களை கேட்டுப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். இது மிக முக்கியம். இதுவரை சினாட் மெம்பர்களின் விலாசங்களை இரகசியமாகவே வைத்துள்ளார்கள். இந்த நிலை மாறவேண்டும்.

பிஷப் அல்லது மாடரேட்டர்

மேலே குறிப்பிட்ட பொருப்புக்கு அல்லது பதவிக்கு தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்படுபவரின் தகுதியை சினாட் மெம்பர்களாகிய நீங்கள் முதலில் அறியவேண்டும்.

(அவர்) குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்படாதவனும்...... துன்மார்கரென்று... குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்படாதவனும்... தன் இஷ்டப்படி செய்யாதவனும்... முற்கோபமில்லாதவனும்.... மதுபானபிரியமில்லாதவனும்... இழிவான ஆதாயத்தை இச்சியாதவனும்.... ஆரோக்கியமான உபதேசத்திலே புத்திசொல்கிறவனு...(தீத்து 1:6-9, 1 தீமோ 3:2-10)மாக இருக்கவேண்டும். இதுதான் வேதபுத்தகம் பிஷப் பதவிக்கு தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட எழுதப்பட்ட தகுதியாகும். மேலே குறிப்பிட்ட வசனத்தை ஒருமுறை வாசித்து செயல்படுங்கள்.

நான் கடந்த வருடம் சென்றுவந்த (கர்நாடகா, ஆந்திரா, கேரளம், தமிழ்நாடு) ஆகிய அனைத்து CSIசபை மக்களும் என்னிடம் கூறியதாவது: சுனாமி பெயரில் கொள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்ட கோடிகள்,கொள்ளையடித்தவர்களிடமிருந்து திரும்பபெற்று சுனாமியால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களிடமே கொண்டுப்போய் சேர்க்கவேண்டும். பல பொய்யான காரணங்களின் பெயரில் திருமண்டலங்களிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட பணம் எடுத்தவர்களிடமிருந்து திரும்பபெறவேண்டும்.

சுனாமி பெயரில் வாங்கப்பட்ட பணம் சுனாமிக்கு சம்பந்தமில்லாத வேறு காரியங்களுக்காக செலவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பது ஆதாரத்துடன் அறியப்படுகிறது. அதை சினாட் கமிட்டி ஒரு குழுவை நியமித்து அவர்கள் நேரில் சென்று, கண்டு ஆராய்ந்து சினாட்டுக்கு அறிக்கை தாக்கல் செய்து, அதன் பேரில் உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவேண்டும்.

ஒவ்வொரு திருமண்டலங்களிலும் நடந்த எலக்ஷனில் சபை மக்களால் தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு பிஷப் பேனலில் வந்தவர்களில் ஒருவரை பிஷப்பாக 22 டையோசிஸ் பிஷப்மார்கள்மட்டும் தெரிந்தெடுக்க வேண்டும். இப்படி செய்தால் ஒருவேளை பண விளையாட்டுக்கு இடம் உண்டாகாது என்று நினைக்கிறேன். இது என் சொந்த கருத்து. வேறு சிலரும் இக்கருத்தை கூறியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

CSIக்கு புதிய சட்டம் உருவாக்க திட்டமிருந்தால், பல வருடங்களுக்குமுன் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட பால் கமிஷன்மூலம் அளித்த பரிந்துரைகளில் முக்கியமானவற்றை புதிய சட்டத்தில் இணைத்து செயல்படுத்தவேண்டும். நான் எழுதியது அதிக பிரசங்கம் என்று நீங்கள் கருதினால் இக்கடிதத்தை கிழித்தெரிந்துவிடுங்கள். இதில் நியாயம் உண்டு என்று நீங்கள் கருதினால் நீங்கள் குழுவாக ஜெபித்து நல்லவற்றை CSI திருமண்டலங்களில் செயல்படுத்த சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் பேசி முயற்சி எடுங்கள். இக்கடிதத்தை நீங்கள் பொறுமையாக வாசித்ததற்கு நன்றி.

முன் பக்கத்தில் வாசித்த கடிதத்தில் ஒரு சில ஆலோசனைகளைமட்டுமே CSI சினாட் மெம்பர்களுக்கு எழுதினேன்.

இந்த சமயத்தில் CSI சபை அனைத்து அங்கத்தினர்களுக்கும் சில விஷயங்களைக்கூற விரும்புகிறேன். பல சபைகளாக சிதறியிருந்த சபைகளை ஒன்றாக்கி 1947ம் வருடம் CSIஎன்று ஒரு ஐக்கிய சபையை ஒரே தலைமையின்கீழ் ஒரே பெயரில் அழைக்கும் வகையில் CSI (Church of South India) என்ற சபையை உருவாக்கி அதற்கான சட்ட திட்டங்களையும் Constitutionயும் 1982ம் ஆண்டில் உருவாக்கினார்கள். பொதுக்குழுகூடி இந்த சட்டங்களை ஒத்துக்கொண்டு கையெழுத்திட்டது.

அதன்பிறகு பிஷப்மார்கள் தங்கள் அதிகாரங்களை அதிகமாக்கிக்கொள்ள, 2003ம் ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் மாதம் பொதுக்குழுவுக்கு தெரியாமல் நிர்வாக கமிட்டியில் உள்ள சிலர் சில புதிய சட்டங்களை உருவாக்கி பிஷப்மார்களின் எல்லை கடந்த அதிகாரத்திற்கு ஒத்துழைத்து பெரிய தவறை CSIக்கு இழைத்துவிட்டனர். இது எப்படி நடந்தது? எப்போது நடந்தது என்பது பலருக்கு தெரியாமல் இரகசியமாகவே பல வருடங்கள் கடந்துப்போனது. பிஷப்மார்களின் அதிகாரம் எல்லை கடந்ததாக இருந்ததாலும் ஒரு சில விஷயங்களில் நன்மை ஏற்பட்டதால் அந்த ஆரம்பகாலங்களில் CSIக்கு பிரச்சனை ஏதும் ஏற்படவில்லை. ஆனால் சில டையோசிஸ்களில் சில பிஷப்மார் டையோசிஸ் பணத்தை கொள்ளையடித்து, சபை நிலத்தை களவாய் விற்கும் எண்ணமுள்ள பிஷப்மார்கள், மனந்திரும்புதலின் அனுபவம் இல்லாதவர்களாயும், தேவ பயமில்லாத பிஷப்மார்களாயும் இருந்ததால் இப்படிப்பட்ட வானளாவிய அதிகாரத்தை தவறாக உபயோகப்படுத்தி இவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு சாதகமாக இந்த சட்டத்தை பயன்படுத்திக்கொண்டார்கள். இந்த சூழ்நிலையில்தான் நம் CSI முழுவதிலும் உள்ள ஒருசில பேராயங்களில் மிகப்பெரிய கெட்டபெயரும், அவமானமும் உண்டாகியது. இப்படிப்பட்ட பிரச்சனைகளை தீர்க்க சினாட் கோர்ட் என்ற பெயரில் ஒரு நீதிமன்றம் உண்டு. அந்த கோர்ட்டின் அமைப்பென்ன? அந்த கோர்ட்டில் யார்? யார்? பொறுப்பு வகிக்கிறார்கள் என்பதைப்பற்றி சபையின் நிர்வாக அங்கத்தினர், சினாட் அங்கத்தினரில் பெரும்பாலோர் அதைக்குறித்து ஒன்றும் அறியவில்லை. ஒவ்வொருமுறை சினாட் கோர்ட் விசாரணை குழுவின் அங்கத்தினர்கள் மாறும்போது அவர்கள் பெயர் CSI சபை மக்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்படவேண்டுமே! ஆனால் சினாட் அதை அறிவிப்பதில்லை! பிஷப்மார்கள்மட்டுமே அதை அறிந்திருந்தார்கள். அது அறியப்படாத இரகசியமாகவே இன்றுவரை இருக்கிறது.

டையோசிஸ்ஸிலும் ஒரு கோர்ட் உண்டு. அதில் பெரும்பாலும் பிஷப்மார்களுக்கு சாதகமானவர்களைத்தான் அந்த குழுவில் நியமிப்பார்கள். ஆகவே சபைமக்கள் தங்கள் பிரச்சனைகளைடையோசிஸ் கோர்ட்டுக்கு கொண்டுப்போனால் அங்கத்தினர்களுக்கு அங்கு நியாயம் கிடைப்பதில்லை. ஆகவே புறமதத்தை சேர்ந்தவர் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் நீதிமன்றம் நோக்கி இவர்கள் செல்ல வேண்டியுள்ளது. கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் நீதிமன்றம் போகக்கூடாது என்று பிரசங்கித்தாலும் நீதி கிடைக்காததால்தானே இவர்கள் நீதிமன்றம் போகிறார்கள்! நமக்குள்ளேயே பிரச்சனையை பேசி தீர்த்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்று வேத புத்தகம் திட்டவட்டமாக போதிக்கிறது என்றாலும் சபையில் அல்லது டையோசிஸ்ஸில் உள்ள சிலரின்கூட்டுசதி மூலமாக சபையிலுள்ள பலர் பழிவாங்கப்படும்போது அல்லது நியாயம் கிடைக்காதபோதுநீதிமன்றத்தின்படி ஏறித்தானேயாகவேண்டும்! மனம் திரும்புதலின் அனுபவம் உள்ளவர்களாக இருந்தால் வேறு வழி உண்டு. அவர்கள் சபையைவிட்டு போய்விடவேண்டும். அதாவது வேறு சபைக்கு செல்ல வேண்டும். இப்படி நம் CSI சபையைவிட்டு வேறு சபைக்குப்போனவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை ஆயிரமாயிரம் பேர்கள் என்று கணக்கிடலாம். இப்படிப்பட்ட பிரச்சனைகள் சபையில் ஏற்படும்போது நமதுCSI சட்ட புத்தகத்தில் 3 வழிகள் உண்டு. 1. சபையில் மூப்பர்கள் (கேரளத்தில் வார்டன் அல்லது டிக்கனர் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்) மூலமாக பிரச்சனைகள் தீர்க்கப்படவேண்டும். 2. டையோசிஸ்ஸிலேயே கோர்ட் உண்டு அதன் மூலம் தீர்க்கப்படவேண்டும். 3. சினாட் தலைவர் மாடரேட்டர் மூலமாக விண்ணப்பிக்கவேண்டும். அவர்கள் அந்த விவகாரத்தை சினாட் கோர்ட்டுக்கு கொண்டுபோவார். இப்போது நான் குறிப்பிட்ட இந்த ஒழுங்கெல்லாம் சரிதான். ஆனால் பழிவாங்கும் நோக்கத்தோடு சபை ஆயர்முதல் பிஷப் வரை சபை அங்கத்தினருக்கு எதிராக செயல்படும்போது சினாட் கோர்ட் என்ன செய்யும்?பிஷப்பும் - மாடரேட்டரும் இணைந்து ஒரு முடிவுக்கு வந்தால் சினாட் கோர்ட்டுக்கு போனாலும்இவர்கள் பழிவாங்கும் முடிவுதான் அங்கு தீர்ப்பாக அறிவிக்கப்படும். இதன்மூலம் பல ஆயர்கள்கூடபாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். சபை அங்கத்தினர்கள் பலர் பழிவாங்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். ஆனால் பிஷப்மார்கள்தவறு செய்தால்மட்டும் தீர்ப்பு வழங்க, யாரும் இல்லை! இது என்ன நியாயமோ?

CSI யின் இன்றைய நிலை

CSIயின் 22 டையோசிஸ்களில் பல டையோசிஸ்களில் உள்ள பிஷப்மார்கள்மேல் இதுவரை கேள்விப்படாத புதிய பல குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் கூடிக்கொண்டேபோகிறது. எனக்கு தெரிந்து கடந்த 70 ஆண்டுகளில் நான் குழந்தையாக வளர்ந்து இன்றைய வயதுவரை என் அனுபவத்தில் அன்றைய நாட்களில் பிஷப்மார்களை நேரில் பார்ப்பது ஒரு பாக்கியம்போல கருதப்பட்டது என்பதை அறிவேன். அவர்கள் கைகளை நாம் தொட்டால் ஆசீர்வாதம் கிடைக்கும் என்று கத்தோலிக்க சபையினர் கருதுவதுபோல CSI, லூத்தரன், மார்த்தோமா போன்ற சபைகளில் உள்ள மக்களும் பிஷப்மார்களை அந்த அளவு மதித்தார்கள். ஆனால் இப்போதோ சில பிஷப்மார்கள் நம் தலையில் கை வைத்தால் அவர்கள்மேல் உள்ள பண ஆசைகளின் ஆவி, காம செயல்களின் ஆவி, தீய சக்திகள் நம்மேல் இறங்கிவிடுமோ என்று பயந்ததாக அறிவித்த கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் உண்டு.

கேரளாவில் மார்தோமா பிஷப்மார்களில் ஒருவரைப்பற்றி இதே குற்றச்சாட்டில் அந்த சபை மக்களே துண்டுபிரதிகள் அச்சடித்து வெளியிட்ட நிகழ்ச்சிகள் உண்டு. இவர்களின் பிஷப் ஒரு சபையில் ஆராதனை நடத்தினால் ஆராதனை நடத்தி முடித்தபின் பிஷப் அவர்கள் ஆல்டர்முன் நாற்காலியில் வந்து உட்காருவார். அப்போது சபை மக்கள் வரிசையில் நின்று ஒவ்வொருவராக பிஷப்பின் கையை முத்தம் செய்யவேண்டும். இதற்கு மலையாளத்தில் கைமுத்தம் என்பார்கள். இப்போது இவர்களின் கேள்வி என்னவென்றால் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட பிஷப்பற்றி பாவமான செய்கைகளை தொடர்ந்து கேள்விப்படுகிறோம். பல இடங்களில் அவரைப்பற்றி குற்றச்சாட்டு எழும்பியுள்ளது. இப்படிப்பட்ட பாவசெயல்கள் செய்யும் இப்படிப்பட்ட பிஷப்மார்களின் கையை சபைமக்களாகிய நாங்கள் முத்தம் செய்யலாமா? இந்த கை முத்தத்தில் என்ன ஆசீர்வாதம் கிடைக்கிறது என்பதுதான் எங்கள் கேள்வி? என்றார்கள். இப்பிரச்சனை பெரிதாக உருவெடுத்தது. முடிவில் இதே சபையிலுள்ள சில நல்ல பிஷப்மார்கள்கூட அநேக இடங்களில் ஆராதனை முடிந்தவுடன் தாங்கள் நடத்தும் கைமுத்தம் சடங்கு இனிவேண்டாம் என்று அறிவித்து விடுகின்றனர். இப்படிப்பட்ட சில மாற்றங்கள்மட்டும் அந்த குறிப்பிட்ட சபைகளில் உண்டாகிறதே தவிர, இந்த சபையிலும் குற்றம் செய்த பிஷப்மார் தண்டிக்கப்படுவதில்லை. அதோடு நிறுத்திக்கொண்டாலும் பரவாயில்லை. பரிசுத்தமில்லாத குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கு உட்பட்ட குறிப்பிட்ட பிஷப் தற்போது தலைமை பதவி பெற்றுவிட்டார் என்பதுதான் எல்லாரையும் ஆச்சரியப்பட வைத்தது. மண்டலம் என்று அவர்களால் அழைக்கப்படும் (சினாட் கூடுகை) பொதுகுழுகூட இவரின் பதவி உயர்வுக்கு சம்மதம் தெரித்துள்ளது. உண்மையில் குறிப்பிட்ட அந்த சபைகளில் பெரும்பாலான மக்கள் இவரின் பதவி உயர்வை வெறுத்தனர். அந்த வெறுப்பை இவர்கள் மண்டலத்தில் காட்ட இயலவில்லை. ஆயர்களின் ஆதரவு அந்த குறிப்பிட்ட பிஷப்புக்கு மிக அதிகம் உண்டு. ஆயர்களின் ஆதரவை இவர் எப்படி இந்தளவு பெற்றார் என்று தெரியவில்லை. ஆகவே அந்த சபைமக்களாலும் அந்த குறிப்பிட்ட பிஷப்பின் பதவி உயர்வை தடுக்கமுடியவில்லை. அதைப்போன்றுதான் CSI, லூத்தரன் சபைகளிலும் இன்றைய தினத்தில் பல அட்டூழியங்களும், பாவங்களும், சர்வாதிகாரமும் நடைபெற்றுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

பிஷப்.அசரியா போன்று இன்னும் பல பிஷப்மார் அந்த காலத்தில் சபை மக்களிடத்தில் நல்மதிப்பை பெற்றதைப்போன்று இன்றைய பிஷப்மார்களில் சபை மக்களால் நன்மதிப்பை பெற்றவர்களை விரல் விட்டு எண்ணிவிடலாம்.

கடந்த சுமார் 20 வருடங்களில் வாழ்ந்த CSI, லூத்தரன் பிஷப்மார்களில் ஒரு சிலரைத்தவிர பெரும்பாலானவர்கள் பலவித குற்றச்சாட்டுகளில் அகப்பட்டவர்களாக அறியப்படுகிறார்கள். குறிப்பாகபெண்கள் தொடர்புடையவர்கள் என்று குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டு பல வார பத்திரிக்கைகளிலும், தினசரி பத்திரிக்கைகளிலும் புகைப்படத்தோடு மோசமான செய்திகள் சில பிஷப்மார்களைப்பற்றி வெளிவந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. இந்த குற்றச்சாட்டுகளில் பிஷப்மாருக்கு பாவம் செய்ய ஒத்துழைப்பு தந்தவர்கள் பெரும்பாலானவர்கள் (பெண்) ஆசிரியைகளாகவும், சில பெண் ஆயர்களாகவும், ஹாஸ்டல்வார்டன்களாகவும் ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் வேலை செய்பவர்களாகவும் குறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது வேதனைக்குரிய விஷயமாகிறது.

மத்திய அரசாங்கத்தில் ஊழல் செய்த மந்திரிகளுக்கு கோடிகளுக்கு எத்தனை பூஜ்ஜியம் போடவேண்டும் என்றுகூட அறியாமல் திணருகிற அளவு, கோடிகள் விழுங்கும் மலைவிழுங்கிகள் இன்றுCSIயிலும் காணப்படுவது கேவலமாக இருக்கிறது. ஒரே நாளில் கொள்ளையடித்த பல கோடிகளை ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக பேங்கில் போட்டால் ஆடிட்டர்கள், வருமானவரி இலாக்காவினர் கண்டுபிடிப்பார்களே என்றுகூட திருடிய வேகத்தில் இவர்கள் மறந்துபோனார்கள். இவை யாவும் CSIயில் சினாடில் கொள்ளையடித்த பணம் ஆகும். இவர்கள் திருடத்தெரியாமல் திருடியவர்கள் ஆவர். அதனால்தான் இவர்கள் இன்று அகப்பட்டு சிலர் ஜெயிலுக்குள் இரண்டுமுறை போய்வந்தார்கள், சிலர் மாதக்கணக்கில் கோர்ட்டுக்கும், போலீஸ் ஸ்டேஷனுக்கும் தினசரி காலை ஆராதனைக்கு போவதுபோல் போய்வருகிறார்கள். சில பிஷப்மார் அங்கியுடன் போய்வருவதையும், சில பிஷப்மார் வெறும்சிலுவைமட்டும் கழுத்தில் மாட்டி அவமான சின்னமாய் போய்வருகிறார்கள் என்பதையும் செய்திதாள்களில் காணும்போது கர்த்தர் என்ன நினைப்பார்? இப்போது கேள்வி என்ன? இப்படிப்பட்ட பிஷப்மார்களுக்கு CSI சட்டத்தில் என்ன தண்டனை? என்ன நடவடிக்கை என்பதைப்பற்றி ஏதாவது எழுதியிருக்கிறதா?

ஒரு பிஷப் மாதக்கணக்கில் வருடாந்திர விடுமுறை ஓய்வில் இருப்பதைப்போல் நகர்வலம் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார். இதன் காரணமாக திருமண்டலத்தில் எந்த வேலையும் நடைபெறாமல் ஸ்தம்பித்து கிடக்கிறது. இது எவ்வளவு மாதங்கள் நீண்டுபோகவேண்டும். இதற்கு ஒரு கணக்கு வரைமுறை ஒன்றும் இல்லையா? சபை குருமார்கள், சபைமக்கள் சினாடிலுள்ள மாடரேட்டருக்கு இதைக்குறித்து எழுதினால் மாடரேட்டர் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க தயங்குகிறார். எல்லாரும் மிகவும் வற்புறுத்த தொடங்கியபோது மாடரேட்டர் ஒரு புது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க முனைந்தார். அதை அறிந்தவுடன் கோடிகளில் அகப்பட்ட அந்த பிஷப் சில ஆயர்களை சென்னைக்கு அழைத்துச்சென்று மாடரேட்டர் அலுவலகத்தைச் சுற்றி தர்ணா போராட்டம் செய்ய மாடரேட்டர் பயந்து பிஷப் மீது எடுக்க இருந்த நடவடிக்கையை கைவிட்டார். இதன் மையக்காரணம் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவேண்டிய மாடரேட்டர் அவர்களும் சுமார் 18 வழக்குகளில் அகப்பட்டுள்ளார் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. பல கோடிகள் திருமண்டலத்திற்கு சேரவேண்டிய பணத்தை தன் பெயரிலும், தன் மனைவி பெயரிலும் பேங்கில் சேர்க்க ஏற்பாடு செய்த கேஸ்ஸில் ஆதாரத்துடன் கையும் களவுமாக பிடிப்பட்டார் என்று கேள்விப்படும்போது நம் CSIயின் இப்போதுள்ளநிலை காண சகிக்கவில்லையே!

போலீஸ் விலங்கோடு இவரை கைது செய்ய வந்தபோது பெங்களுர் CSI ஆஸ்பத்திரியில் ICUவார்டில் போய் படுத்துக்கொண்டார். இந்த சூழ்நிலையில் மத்திய கேரளா டையோசிஸ் பிஷப்எலக்ஷனில் தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு பேனலில் வந்தவர்கள், தேர்ந்தெடுத்த முறைகளில் உள்ள குளறுபடிகளை விசாரிக்க சினாட் கோர்ட் அமைக்கப்பட்டது. அதற்கு தலைமை தாங்க மாடரேட்டர் ICUவார்டிலிருந்து வருவாரா என்று கேரளாவில் கேள்வி எழுப்பப்பட்டது. ஒரு வழியாக மாடரேட்டருக்கு ஜாமீன் கிடைத்தது. இப்படி எத்தனை வழக்குகள், எத்தனை ஜாமீன்கள், இப்படிப்பட்டவர் குற்றம் செய்த மற்ற பிஷப்மார்களை எப்படி நியாயம் விசாரிக்கமுடியும். நியாயாசனத்தில் உட்கார இவருக்கு என்ன தகுதியுண்டு. நம் CSIயில் மிகப்பெரிய தலைமையே இப்படியானால் யார் நம் CSIயை இவர்களிடமிருந்து காப்பாற்றமுடியும். இவர்களின் வழக்குகள் நீதிமன்றத்தில் நடைபெற்றுக்கொண்டிருக்கலாம்.

தீர்ப்பு வந்தால்தான் ஒருவர் குற்றவாளி என்று முடிவு செய்யலாம் என்று தமிழக முதல்வர் மாண்புமிகு கலைஞர்.மு.கருணாநிதி அவர்கள் அடிக்கடி கூறுவதுபோல கிறிஸ்தவ சபைகளில் கூறக்கூடாதே!

ஆவிக்குரிய வைராக்கியம் ரோஷமுள்ளவர் உடனே பதவியிலிருந்து இறங்கவேண்டாமா? பத்திரிக்கையில் தன்னைப்பற்றி வந்த பிழையான செய்தியை அறிந்த குறிப்பிட்ட மந்திரி ஒருவரும், கவர்னர் ஒருவரும் செய்தியை வாசித்தவுடன் தன் பதவியை ராஜினாமா செய்தாரே அவர்கள் இருவரும் அமெரிக்காவைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள். அது வெளிநாட்டு நாகரீகம். இந்த மாடரேட்டர் இப்படிப்பட்ட கோடிகள் விழுங்கிய பிஷப்மார்களை எப்படி பதவி இறக்கம் செய்யப்போகிறார்? அதற்கு வழி என்ன? அதைத்தான் 2011 பிப்ரவரி மாதம் 19ம்தேதி சினாட் கூட்டத்தில் சினாட் மெம்பர்கள் கேள்வி எழுப்பவேண்டும், அதற்கு வழி கண்டுபிடிக்கவேண்டும் என்று கடிதம் எழுதி கேட்டுக்கொண்டேன்.

மேலே குறிப்பிட்ட பிரச்சனைகள் CSI சபைகளில் நீண்டுகொண்டேபோனால் CSI சபை ஒன்றுமில்லாமல் போகும். அரசாங்கம் தானே முன்வந்து CSI சபை நிர்வாகத்தை பொறுப்பெடுக்கும் நிலை வரும். ஜாக்கிரதை! அந்த ஆபத்து இப்போதே வருமானவரி துறை அலுவலகத்திலிருந்து கேள்வி ரூபத்தில் கடிதமாக சினாட்டுக்கு அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன் விவரத்தை இந்த கட்டுரையை தொடர்ந்து வாசிக்கும்போது அறியலாம்.

ஒருவர் பிஷப்மேல் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தார் என்ற காரணத்தால் அவரை சபையைவிட்டு சபை நீக்கம்(Excommunicate) செய்யப்பட்டார். அது செல்லாது என்று கூறி சபை நீக்கம் செய்த பிஷப்புக்கு 1 லட்சம் அபராதம் நீதிபதியால் விதிக்கப்பட்டதை தினசரி செய்திதாள்களில் வாசித்திருப்பீர்கள். ஜாமக்காரனிலும் அதன் விவரம் வெளியிட்டேன். ஆனால் மாடரேட்டர்மேல் ஒரு பிஷப் வழக்கு தொடுத்தாரே அவர்மேல் என்ன நடவடிக்கை? பிஷப் அவர்கள் சபை நீக்கம் (Excommunicate) பதவி நீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டாரா? இல்லையே! என்ன நியாயம் இது!
