PRECIOUS FIND - 13 idols unearthed in Tiruvarur village

A resident of Tiruvarur found 13 idols of gods and goddesses, believed to be made of panchaloha, while constructing a toilet in his house on Thursday .
Workers were digging a 5ft-deep pit in the house of Kasiranjan of Vikirapandiyan village, when their shovels struck something metallic.
After further digging they recovered 13 idols, in cluding that of Shiva, Lakshmi and Nataraja, along with several other items used in Hindu rituals.
The idols were brought to the ground in presence of revenue officials and police, and a priest was called in to clean them up.
The idols, two to three feet in height, were kept at the Kudavasal taluk office.
The news spread like wildfire, and people from nearby villages rushed to the spot to see the idols.Some even started chanting mantras to worship the gods.
Revenue officials said tests will be carried out on the idols as they are not certain if they are made of panchaloha.
The idols will be shifted to the strong room of Thiyagaraja temple at Tiruvarur after the tests.
Villagers demanded that the idols be kept in temples in Tiruvarur for worshipping, after obtaining necessary permissions, as they were found in the village.
